Yall jabronis doing NBA TOPSHOT? I bet the jabronis in that CF-exodus discord be doing it, but I might as well gauge my eyes out before actually looking in there. :p

I can understand how NFTs can have value, but the extreme prices people are paying for digital art (for example) I can't wrap my head around -- the recent 69 million dollar auction price just seems insane.

Don't worry about it man -- they've got scrubs selling for $500 now. A lot of the good ones are in the thousands of dollars with a lot of them dropping in price. lol.

Sometimes the first instinct is the correct one. What a waste of money.

Speaking of which I'm thinking of starting a virtual currency called Clutch Coins... which something something... scam scheme and a fad... something something.

At least with the Beeple $69M transaction, there seem to be some shady things about it:

    https://amycastor.com/2021/03/14/metakovan-the-mystery-beeple-art-buyer-and-his-nft-defi-scheme/
So not so much about wanting to buy this artwork as a way of respecting the artist, but rather the goal is to just get people to join in on this scam so these other folks get rich.

NFTs are the latest crypto thing to drive me crazy. I'm not even sold on blockchain being *that* useful of a tech (let alone cryptocurrency), but now we have ridiculous stuff like NFT. Of course, that doesn't mean you won't see hundreds of millions (billions?) of dollars going into things like this. It wouldn't be so bad if the energy demands and externalities weren't so terrible. I've been meaning to put together a huge rant to post in the Bitcoin thread, but I haven't found the time...probably best that I keep it that way. :)

This really does sound like the digital baseball card business for the most part, except when the card resells the musician now gets a cut of the resale. As far as the digital aspect, I hate the concept overall, but it's real, and the next generation will like it. There should be a way to secure the content for it's originality, but yep, people will find a way to create fake content so the buyer will need intelligence. I agree it will be popular, but I agree that the musician will likely get next to nothing from it. If you are popular enough to make money from it, then the green is probably negligible from your viewpoint anyway.

The crazy prices are crazy, but the technology and the ways it could change the way business is done in art, music and collectibles is interesting.
