I agree with your larger position. My point (and I did not express it well) is that I don't believe many people outside of the Asian American community realize how pervasive and in many cases outright nasty the degree of racism is against Asians. The level of stereotype and just outright racism in the Breakfast at Tiffany's movie is so bad and exaggerated that I did not even relate it to any group, it was just odd to me. From passing laws to prevent Asians from entering the country in the past, to the railroads, to the WWII propaganda is cartoons that was excused because war, to the internment camps to the stereo types that persist to this day. It is bad, and it still largely isn't addressed.

It is very easy for me as a white man, or even my Arab wife to look at something like Dr. Seuss or Breakfast at Tiffany's or any number of 80's movies and say "lighten up, it is just a joke" when it doesn't directly impact us and fail to realize that there stereotypes are perpetuated and reinforced.

Is cancelling a thing that that has been a non-existent threat in the US "cancelling"?

Oh nevermind. You are using the incorrect terminology of communism to strawman you ideological opponents.

Considering there are many "Conservative" voices now arguing that private businesses shouldn't be able to decide what to publish and questioning copyrights, essentially Marxist beliefs, I don't think this applies.

    Yes, they are liberals.

I'm curious how much do YOU know about this topic to be challenging me about it? Because it seems like you don't know why JK Rowling is even controversial and are just asking questions. Yes, left leaning media amplified these things, yes plenty on the left have been on a crusade against JK Rowling for some time now. Do you know why?

This whole conversation is subjective, most of the things being mentioned were not actually 'canceled' or 'tried to be canceled'. Conservatives didn't try to cancel the Dixie Chicks. Can you prove it? Can you show the conservatives?

I think most of it is white noise from randos on twitter. Are Harry Potter books being dropped from shelves from retailers or something?

Conservatives are the biggest hypocrites on the planet, they blame everyone else, take no responsibility and are essentially selfish in nature.

    The kids are liberals?

The entire Harry Potter forum were liberals?

I know all about this controversy and have since it blew up, the point is you claiming all of these people as liberals when you have no idea what their political leanings are.

Rowling made some anti-trans comments while citing her past sexual abuse by a man as a reason to be fearful of trans women using women's restrooms. Also made similar comments about how FtM men that transition are just confused lesbians brainwashed into transitioning. Rowling also made the claim that at points in her life where she was still figuring out her sexuality, she thought she could been "coerced" into becoming trans and thus finds the movement harmful against people who might just be gay or lesbian and is against it. She's what members of the LGBTQI+ community would call a TERF, a trans-exclusionary radical feminist. I think that's about as good of a cliff notes as I can provide why some members of the LGBTQI+ are up in arms about canceling Rowling. Also her last book involved a murderer being a very masculine looking trans woman who was written in the similar villainous tone of Buffalo Bill, which many trans people find an offensive stereotype to who they really are and only aids in the public perception to treat them less equally than other human beings, like past movies have done at their expense.

I'm not personally invested in canceling her but I think history has shown that treating others less than equal while committing no crime other than existing has been widely regarded as a bad move every time it's been done.

This is legit one of the funniest things to witness.

Libertarians learning that they are pro authoritarianism... but as the same with mar1juana laws, gay rights, women rights, they will never admit it.

Libertarian for things like environmental pollution, cutting social programs, cutting taxes, authoritarian as **** when it comes to voting laws, drugs, and a host of social issues (that somehow always involve brown people or women).

    Whadaya gone du.

So it's the queer community that wants to cancel Rowling.

Pretty much and people that support gay rights. I get the arguments honestly. She's so incredibly wealthy and become such a common household name that controversial statements from her have a lot more influence and weight to them than your average everyday person. Canceling her won't take away her existing wealth. It's more to limit the spread of her negative influence against the gay community. And it's not even really the gay community exclusively. There are lesbians that absolutely do not consider trans women as women and would never date one. And I'm sure similarly of gay men and transitioned men. So not everyone in the gay community is on board either. Some might even agree with certain things Rowling has said. It's never quite truthful to say an entire demographic of people are always united on topics like these.

No, but that goes back into the discussion of 'What is being canceled?'

I'd say a concerted effort to boycott a person or thing is 'canceling' and there has certainly been an effort to boycott Rowling and anything thing Harry Potter.

Time out, who said the entire Harry Potter forum were liberals?

I said GENERALLY it's been liberals, generally, liberals are for Transrights or the acknowledgment that trans people are their desired gender. Generally, people on the right are against more of the latter. If you'd agree with this, then it logically follows that most of the people attacking Rowling are from the left.

Can you find a prominent figure on the left that sides with Rowling? I can find plenty that have not and can find plenty on the right that side with her, this is not some odd coincidence just like each of these cancel stories, generally, one side is for it and the other against it, generally.
