Doubt we get casino gaming at this time. But, if it does happen I hope it doesn’t happen the way Las Vegas Sands wants it to. It appears they want only one large casino for each large metro area. Very advantageous to the gaming company that can get that license to not have any competitors in the region. One casino in Houston would be an absolute gold mine.

If the goal of the state is to make money and create jobs, then the state of Texas shouldn’t limit each metro area to one large casino. The Houston area alone could easily support three or four large casinos.

I understand that Las Vegas Sands wants little or no competition, but that wouldn’t be the best thing for the state, or for the players. Las Vegas Sands is the one putting up money to try to get this legislation passed. But, I would hope the politicians would do what is best for the state and what is best for Texans.

Agreed with everything you said. Can we trust the state politicians to do the right thing though....

I would love if there was a Wynn or a Golden Nugget in Houston instead of all the way in Lake Charles.

Of course we can't. Remember the Texas Lottery? That was supposed to be this amazing new source of revenue for schools. Over time, the government just cut funding to schools and basically erased the benefit of lottery revenues.

This type of backdoor scheming will be the worst outcome. Texas will gain zero tax revenue because the Republicans will find some way to cut taxes or subsidize businesses with the supposed revenue gains. And they'll write the legislation to limit gambling licenses to allow one or two casino operators to gain a monopoly on gaming in Texas. The Texas Legislature is such a joke these days that companies like Las Vegas Sands can easily buy a handful of legislators and just write the legislation for them.

With that said, the votes probably aren't there for this so this will be a non-starter.
