    That's terrible

But it's also pretty indicative of the "gaming" culture. You hear people talking like that in every COD lobby. Its nuts.

Lol. WARZONE! I've seen kids with the N word as their names. Seriously.. those lobbies have some douchey people playing that game. From Hackers to blatantly racist people just opening their mouths without really any consequences.

The speech that comes out of people's mouth often has less to do with who they are as a person and more to do with the culture that surrounds them.

That said, I don't know what this guy was thinking filming himself talking like that. Really dumb.

    LOL newb

I'm sure he forgot the COMMISIONER was Jewish.
Silver would probably be kind to him.

David Stern would have kicked him out of the league.

As long as he doesn't talk about Hong Kong or Muslims in China, this is an easy fix for the NBA.

On one hand, I think getting upset over this is really dumb. Maybe it's an age group thing, where offensive humor is taken extremely lightly by people born in the '90s, especially when joking, using it while being competitive with friends in sports or gaming. I say much worse things to my friends, It's immaturity, not hate or negative intent.

On the other hand, the dude is streaming himself, he's an NBA player, he has sponsors, so he has to hold himself to a professional standard and not just a ****-talking with friends standard. It is what it is.

It's his pause before the slur that sticks out to me. Leonard may have been flipping through his mental Rolodex of slurs before deciding on that one.

Also, he said that slur with some emphasis. I don't buy his "ignorance" excuse.

Like I had even forgotten that was a slur. When I turned that video on I expected it was going to be something inappropriate but at least a little understandable like singing along to a rap song with the n word in it and not knowing if you can sing along or not, but no.

Dude went straight to the white supremacist playbook and broke out an obscure anti-Semitic slur that many people don't even know. Wow.

And the excuse that he didn't know what it meant - THEN WHY DID YOU USE IT? LANGUAGE IS FOR EXPRESSING IDEAS NOT MAKING RANDOM SOUNDS.

these scripted apologies are basically the same as saying something cliche like “thoughts and prayers”

Meyers hit every talking point in his apology from being ignorant to seeking awareness and education...then finally to it not representing who he is, because u always gotta include some form of that in the apology

U didn’t know what the word meant? Really my guy? What could u possibly have thought it meant? Stop...

So I get your frustration but most of that stuff is what you actually should say if you're sincere. The part that rings hollow to me is that he avoided ownership of the use of the word by denying that he knew the meaning. I just have a hard time believing you can know that word and not know what it means.

all these copy and paste apologies sound the same these days...if I was a teacher, I’m taking 50% off for plagiarism and not citing your sources

he knew what that word meant for sure...Idk how u just stumble upon that word and start saying it having no clue what it means

Is there any other meaning or non-racist context that the word is used in? C’mon Meyers, let’s be real

At least he apologized and didn't double down on his anti-semitism like many athletes did.

COD really is a toxic game. I used to think DOTA or LOL games were bad but COD brings out the worst in people. Probably cause so many 12 year Olds play with their mics on and so the community as a whole stoops down to their level.
