I remember when James White was going crazy in the d-league and got called up -- I was excited thinking that maybe he was a late bloomer that could be a solid NBA player. Plus the dunk contest would have become a must watch event -- things didn't work out very well.

Well then I retract my previous statements. Clearly KPJ has proven he is an all-time great!

This is a great question for a thread. I had the same thought the other day. I don't think there's any question that he'd be a top 10 prospect and possibly a top 1-5 pick depending on the rest of the class. People are wanting to ignore his G-League numbers, but it's not so much the numbers but the talent & skillset that people should be taking notice of. The numbers are just a little validation of those skills.

We can say all day the numbers mean nothing, but if he were averaging 10ppg, we'd be talking about the lack of production. Seems only right we take into account the fact that he is in-fact producing in the box score while showing his talent.

The fact he’s shown he can run the point makes his talent level enough to go 3-5 in this draft imo, maybe falling as low as 8-10 due to doubts about maturity from his previous actions. I would argue there’s no way he would fall out of the lottery.

Jesus christ this forum is on crack cocaine. He'd be a 2nd rounder. He was pick #30 in a weaker draft.

If we're considering his current contributions/value as a 2nd-year player and aren't magically resetting his career? Undrafted or very late 2nd. He was literally just traded for nothing. If he was good enough to be a top 5 pick in the 2021 draft, he probably would have landed the Cavs at least a 2nd no?

his character issues and lack of intangibles would lower his draft stock i believe

Disagree....without a doubt he would have been the #1 pick in this years draft. There hasn’t been a kid this talented since Jordan.

It's funny. Jalen Green is projected to be top 5 and we saw them literally play head to head for a full game just weeks ago and it was pretty obvious who had more refined Ball handling skills and footwork.

I don't think Kevin Love would throw his teammates under the bus unless all his teammates agreed with him when he explicitly said that KPJ was the most talented player on their roster when they have Sexton, one of the best young talents in the league performing at a high level at 22. I'm assuming Sexton agrees with Love because I don't see Love doing that to a teammate publicly.

And yes I've visited the Cavs' subreddit along with Cavs fans coming into to the Rockets subreddit who readily admit that KPJ is more talented than their prized possession they have in Sexton. That would be a difficult pill to swallow for any fanbase and I've seen multiple Cavs fans readily admit it.

Man, I am going to keep beating this dead horse. It is not clear AT ALL that he would be a top 10 prospect. Again, his original draft position had absolutely zero to do with his talent and skill level. Organizations knew he was a lottery talent. His draft position was a direct result of questions regarding his character/conduct/mental well being because of his suspension and other incidents.

In his little more than a year in the NBA he has crashed a car, been arrested on a weapons and mar1juana charge, been accused of punching a woman in the face, made suicidal instagram posts and then threw a tantrum in which he was heard yelling about "modern day slavery" and apparently threw some food at Koby Altman.

How exactly has this quelled concerns about his character/conduct/mental well being? I think teams would be lined up to sign him as an undrafted rookie and gamble on his potential; especially rebuilding teams. But I'm not sure a whole lot of teams would even want to invest a second round pick in him after all of that.

This is a great point! I was simply going from a talent perspective, but I agree with you and that's of course how we were able to acquire him. I was simply going on talent..

Depends. If his head is on right... top 5. If he comes with the bag of crazies... back to the bottom. The amount of off court issues is a giant red flag to most teams. He may have all the talent in the world but if he can't play most of them due to suspensions.. then ya..
