Until Robert Horry body checks this fake notion that he was a championship level coach out of this fake adulation of a coach who didn’t even get a head coaching job after he left the Rockets
oh, if only he had a championship level coach who could have coached him to avoid it or inspire him to do better...
So we're not going to give credit to a guy who's offense literally gave us 65 wins, a trip to the Western conference against arguably one of the greatest teams ever constructed. The man also continues to say wonderful things about the city even after he left? Bashing Mchale is one thing but D'Antoni is a standup guy who gave us the closest thing to a title since the days of Dream/ RudyT. Rudy, Van Gundy and D'Antoni seemed like the hardest working coaches I've seen sit on that sideline. Those three wanted to win and spent countless nights working on improving the team and studying tapes.
Give Rick , Harden And he would do what he did with Drexler twice in Portland take them to the finals I understand newbs forgot our boy Rick was hall of fame before he stepped in Houston
24 more wins with much harder competition. Literally took the GOAT Warriors to 7 and would have won had Cp3 not gotten injured. Brought the best out of James. His worse team was flukey as a hell and required Josh Smith and Corey Brewer to have amazing three point shooting nights. The next year he was what he was, trash. That's fine. Dantoni has still had vastly more sucess than Mchale. Mcahle could never sniff 65 wins in his life and never would have made James play the way he did with Dantoni.
You don’t know who Fitch is @J.R. non paying freeloaders Don’t even know how to google Rockets history
Here’s a picture of all the D’Antoni NBA finals he’s lead his teams to and it’s also the same amount of money you contribute to this site you freeloader @J.R. @Os Trigonum
im just pointing out when you use the phrase vastly more success one wound think of the difference between RudyT and MDA... not MDA and the folks behind him. Otherwise what do you call the difference between RudyT and everyone else. again... assuming Tilman isn’t giving tribute videos out left and right to everyone (as far as I can remember Harden is the only one so far), I’m fine with MDA not getting a tribute video
When we signed him I thought it was a horrible decision, nothing he had done showed we could win with him, and his peak with the Suns was from over a decade and a couple of teams prior. Once he was here, it was very apparent that he was the perfect coach for the team. Easily one of my favorite Rocket coaches.
I'm ok with Rudy T and Fitch on top but for what they accomplished in Houston, I'll put D'Antoni at 3rd with Chaney. 1 semifinals and a 22 game win streak < 65 wins (most in franchise history) and 7 games against a Juggernaut Warriors team.
Well I know you know who Fitch is I don’t trust these other people to even knowing who Fitch is or even who Turbo is
@Ramo$e if Rockets coaching were iron chef and the ingredient was octopus Rick would make Octopus ice cream Mike would just have Octopus sashimi this analogy of course is for people with culture and money Not freeloaders @Jontro
D'antoni exceeded expectations. Cuz of that, now the bar is reset at "Cant win a RING". When it was initially about if he can be better than a 7th seed. Even more, other teams actually stole his & Morey's ideas against the Rockets. That might be understated unfortunate sign of accomplishment. Warriors, Raptors & Lakers used their strategy with better luck & GOAT players. If the league today was still 3-5 years behind MDA & Morey like they were in the 00's-10's, Rockets would have a ring.
All this gatekeeping reminds me of this article. What a gem. I need to re-read it. https://grantland.com/features/an-oral-history-hakeem-olajuwon-ralph-sampson-1980s-houston-rockets/
