It’s often said that those in power don’t like to give up power.

Then there is Biden. And Obama, but he failed to reach an agreement with Congress.

I don’t recall Trump entertaining ever giving up war power.

President Joe Biden intends to work with Congress to repeal the war authorizations that have underpinned U.S. military operations across the globe for the past two decades and negotiate a new one that reins in the open-ended nature of America’s foreign wars, the White House said Friday.

Not the best thread title. Biden backs curtailing executive war powers, ... or that's my understanding.

Not that half the country will ever get the details anyway. "Biden seeks sweeping new authority to send his creepily abused red-state orphan children into conflicts around the globe, straight from the underground DC pizza shop."

He should have acted like he was against it so the GOP would have pushed hard for its passage.

It would be good to see if this happens but I do have a hard time seeing a Presidency especially a Biden Presidency who just last week used the Presidential war powers voluntarily giving up much of that power.

They are not using the war power, but the constitution. I guess the big difference is self-defense vs pre-emptive self-defense (Bush+ era).

"But unlike in previous administrations, the Pentagon did not cite any of the previous war authorizations as the legal justifications for the Syria strikes, signaling it plans to pursue a different approach.

Instead, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby pointed to Article II of the Constitution, which grants the commander-in-chief “not only the authority but the obligation to protect American forces,” as well as Article 51 of the United Nations charter, which grants members the right to self defense."

Good point. The Constitution already gives the Executive branch a lot of power in use of military power. Besides that though given Biden's history it would surprise me if he were willing to give up other powers granted under previous War Powers Acts.

If Biden is mentally unaware of what he is signing then is it legal?
