Oladipo, however, remains in play for the Knicks as the Rockets are expected to trade him at the deadline as they slide into oblivion. Oladipo will be a free agent in 2021 and reportedly wants to sign with the Heat. That would make Oladipo a rental as the Knicks look to boost their bid to snap a seven-year playoff drought.

Knicks general manager Scott Perry, while with the Magic, drafted Oladipo second overall in 2013, and he has been a supporter of a potential trade. But Perry no longer is the top decision-maker. He has not been at the Garden the past five games, scouting the end of the G-League’s bubble season.

He’s the kind of player Tibs values. It might be worth the stretch for the Knicks. They get to strengthen their playoff prospects and they get some time to convince him to stay. And I’m no Bima, but I’m assuming having his bird rights would be valuable. This needs to happen.

Oladipo doesn’t want to be here and will walk OR we over pay. Neither is a good place to be for the Rockets. It’s cash in for a little return because it’s better than nothing.

I don't care where he's traded as long as he is traded so that the Rockets don't extend him for the max. Trade him to the Turkish league for all I care.

That 2y45m extension he's a movable asset , more than that and he's a negative asset.

Oladipo expressed interest in staying with Knicks? Why else would they give up assets for him?

Why would they give up assets for him anyway? Are they beating Boston/Miami with him? Probably not. They can get him for free this summer.

I guess if they think he is going to Miami bringing him in and trying to convince him over the next few months is an idea. But that’s not worth their pick or Dallas’s. If they’ve given up on Knox/Ntilikina anyway they could put those in the trade. But that’s a low return

That still would be acceptable than having him around in Houston.

Get back to me once we see him play with Wood and Wall for another 9 games up to the deadline.

Wall/Wood/Oladipo has a +14.6 net rating. Oladipo averages 21.1 pts, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and only 0.7 turnovers per36 when he’s on the court with them - that’s INSANE. Having a third guy who can give you that production and not turn the ball over is a huge threat, combined with the defense he and John Wall bring at the point of attack and how much that helps Christian Wood behind them.

Are you suggesting the Rockets don't blow it up and try to build around this core? I just don't get understand that take. Their chances of making the playoffs are slim, and even if they re-sign Oladipo in the offseason, their long-term outlook is as a borderline playoff team in a conferemce stacked with far more talent.

On top of that, you risk letting Dipo walk for nothing, which would be disastrous given that he was the key player piece of the Harden trade.

if vic won't extend then he's gotta go regardless of how good he was with wall and wood. also at this point I'd rather take the 50/50 chance of a top 4 pick than push into the play-in games.
