Mike D'Antoni is a good coach and a good person. I don't believe he is a championship coach, however. There are a lot of things i disliked about his approach to timeouts and adjustments. Popovich, who i think is the best coach in the NBA, approaches timeouts and adjustments completely different and he is indeed a championship level coach. I know Mike had some sort of statistic that said that timeouts don't change a thing but i think it's about the things you say. From playing the spurs i feel like timeouts definetely do something for them.
