So....it's people's fault for being unhealthy or old or have underlying conditions that they die before they would generally die?
How about this.... if you wear a mask, you get a vaccine. if you don’t wear a mask, well covid isnt that big a deal to you anyway, no vaccine.
Does he also think Texas is on par, health-wise and fitness wise, with other countries? If anything, given the overall body habitus of Texans, this is an indication to be even more cautious, not less.
Maybe it's just more about shoving their defiance into Biden's face. After all, like you said, it backfired last May. These same types flaunted defiance of masks and social distancing all year long for no logical or ethical, or responsible purpose other than to stand with Trump in his "Covid is only gonna kill the old and medically fragile" stance.
Just basic thought would be having a good portion of your population vaccinated before loosening restrictions that has killed over 40 thousand people and has led to thousands of people with long term effects. Or at least keeping the mask mandate. Texas again just becoming an embarrassment to the rest of the country. It doesn't suprise me though. Just garbage humans that didn't care in the first place, so why would we think they would have a change of heart?
I'm on board with this idea. Too bad there is no practical to enforce this. Also, politicians who support reopening 100% with no masks, have to wait until everyone is vaccinated including their family members before getting theirs.
I went to Lowes last night for something and already you see the flaunting of this order. People shedding the masks even as workers even though Lowes hasn't changed their policy yet I'm sure. The impact of this decision to play politics is actually going to cost Texas BUSINESS more than anything. Now people who actually care about contracting the virus are just going to stop going to stores because they now know that there's a high likelihood of the location being unsafe with mask less people coughing everywhere. Also with there now likely being a stigma, it makes me not want to go to businesses where I know I'll be looked at as a Libtard. I'm just not going to go to a Cavender's or wherever rednecks go because I know I'll be looked at weird, or made fun of. This is another series of events where Abbott has shown time and time again that he is a massive failure, and a hack who only cares about power in the Trump base rather than his home state.
I usually ignore the nonsense but this posts is dangerously misleading and ignorant about what's happening in Asia. Why SK and Taiwan were able to get control of this disease is because of a very aggressive testing regime. Mask wearing has long been a practice in most East and SE Asian countries for decades. It's long been expected that when you were feeling ill you were expected if you were out in public to wear a masks. Further the legacy of SARS meant practices such as temperature screening including automated temperature screens at airports were already in place. On top of that HK, Singapore and the PRC still had major shutdowns too that were stricter than things we had here. While better diets and less obesity do help that ignores the vast amount of other practices that were put in and have been in place for years to deal with highly contagious communicable diseases.
Certainly better overall health does help your body fight off infections but Houston frequently tops the lists of fattest cities. It's far far too late to argue that controlling obesity is the strategy for combatting COVID-19 while ignoring things like masking and social distancing. It would be like saying a wood house that is on fire that we shouldn't be using a fire hose on it but should be installing sprinklers inside.
It's not and everyone should just like every building should be built with fire alarms, sprinklers and / or fire proofing. It's a little late though to retrofit a building with those while the building is on fire.
This won't work. The entire approach built on getting a certain percentage of the population vaccinated to make it safe for everyone. And its likely that all the politicians and their families have gotten vaccinated. In the same way... those calling for the federal government to deprioritize COVID-19 aid to states that seem hell bent to allow the spread of the disease is wrong, and governor wheels and his fellow maga/qanon believes count on the fact that a moral, compassionate person replaced the previous guy that would withhold aid from states he didn't like.
These no mask no lockdown politicians who started the stance already ensured they were first in line for the vaccines. They are "me first" you can suffer despicables.
he only did it because yesterday was texas independence day and he wanted the symbolism. thats the only reason for why he lifted the mandate when he did.
No, while I do not agree with her on many things. In this case she is right. Ending the mask mandate at this point is really foolish. They do not have enough people vaccinated and this potentially can cause another outbreak. We are supposed to have enough vaccines for everyone to get one by May. I would have even supported the Governor opening up further in Texas, but masks do not harm business. This was a pure political grab and it will cost lives. As you know I have lived many places in the USA and even outside the USA. I have lived in Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, New York and even had a farm in Ohio and other places. What I have learned is that regardless of party affiliation, when one party dominates the political landscape everyone suffers because there is no real competition. We are seeing that in California at the state level.... I am living it now in Chicago..... and the same is true with Texas. Texas, like California has really bad leadership...... in no universe is Ted Cruz, Ken Paxton or Greg Abbott good leadership for Texas. They are getting elected based purely on party.... and the same thing is happening in California... with Newsome and Feinstein. This was a stupid political stunt by a Governor feeling heat and Abbott is a coward.
Long enough from now that they're banking on you and the Semper Fries brigade forgetting that we almost froze to death two weeks ago due to conservative market principles. He wants this mask fight to overshadow that.
I never said that in any thread at no point in time, ever. There are too many broad brush strokes being applied to folks. A group of "Trumpofiles" thinking Covid is a hoax does not mean all Trump supporters believe that. Look at all of my posts regarding Covid you will not find one time where I said or agreed with any statement of it being a hoax. The issue here is that NPIs have not proven to be effective, and the mandates are being loosened to reflect that. They are not being loosened because people think Covid is fake.
he was watching the CPAC gathering in Fla, noticing that those bashing Dr. Fauci had received the loudest applause.
