Well when you have an asset that you do not really want to retain you have to let the world know that you highly value it to bring the value up. I think this was Stone knowing what HoláDepot’s camp wants and making a public offer that they know doesn’t meet his demands. If you’re another team that’s interested it might make you think twice about waiting until free agency. This possibly heats up the trade market for him knowing they won’t be able to just sign him.

Stone just offered Dipo the largest amount of money and years that he could at the moment, we are just lucky Dipo declined. Now we need to hope that Stone will trade him away and not offer him more years at a higher salary in the offseason in order to keep him.
