Why haven't UH picked up many 4 and 5 Star Recruits, with what has been built the last few years??

Do we have the right people recruiting?

mark, shead are 4 star recruits. powell is a 3 star whose widely considered one of the top defensive bigs in his class. This formed UH's most talented recruiting group to date and top 25 class nationally for 2019

grimes is a 5 star transfer.

Yes, they have the right people recruiting. Their primary names are Kevin a & Kelvin. There's a reason why this has become a elite program in the last 3-4 years

I don't think Grimes is NBA talent, but he's shooting teams out of the gym right now, and I give him credit for even getting onto the draft list. He's clearly gained confidence and some mojo this week which makes us dangerous. If he can score like that against the blue bloods we're going the distance, but I fear a good defender can take him out of his game because we don't have good handles as a team when under pressure.

All I really care about is getting between 5-12 nationally. If we fall any further it makes it tough. If we win out, which we should, we'll be sitting pretty. ESPN called us a weird team tonight. I don't know what that means, but I don't care. Sasser needs to get it going though. We don't have great handles so our shooters will need to shoot as the intensity picks up. And we know Sasser can shoot. He needs to watch video of himself when he was feeling it.

Hearing Memphis fans chirping for some reason. Glad the game is on CBS.

They're 9 and teams in front of them have some tough games

Still waiting on that one recruit that puts them over the top. It's an elite program for sure but if we can get the best out of H-Town like in years past, that will put us over the top!

The program couldn't careless about prioritizing 5 star recruits. If it happens to come across a player so be it, but that's not what they set their primary points on. They focus on finding guys that fit and play hard first regardless of what someone decides to rate them. It's their foundation and that won't change so long as the Sampson's are here. What will get them over the top is continuity which is what they have been building towards. But with that you're still going to be losing guys early like armoni/hinton. And Mill's request to transfer. You're not typically going to find all the hyped 5 stars settle for Houston when 1 and done's are still constant for storied programs and leave a number of roster spots open year after year.

Dead on point YOLO. Sampson cares about players that want to be coached hard. No need to get a player that won't fit in just because he is ranked as a 5 star. I love this staff.

That's NOT true. They recruit 4 and 5 Star Players, they just haven't gotten them on a consistent basis. Surely, they are looking for a certain type of player but they have offers out to 5 Star kids regularly

Not true at all. And youre speaking to someone who actually has connections inside the UH coaching staff as in the front lines on the bench that’s right next to the Sampson’s every game. They spend way more time looking at non 5 stars and invest in their recruiting time to do their due diligence to see if they fit their culture. Kids that play hard, have a chip on their shoulder, right attitude are huge bulletin points. Grimes came in as a 5 star transfer and boy did he get humbled and had a huge adjustment to make on how things operate at the UH program. It took him over a year to finally adjust to how things work and what is expected out of him

They prioritize very undervalued kids because it keeps their kids humbled and have that much more room to improve. 0 egos are allowed in that locker room and not tolerated

UH will look at 4-5 star players and they do recruit some of them. They are different in other schools in that they don’t print out the Rivals list and go down the line recruiting kids. They give no attention to the commercial lists at all and recruit kids they believe can play and will work hard. Sometimes those kids are 4-5 star players like Jarret Allen and sometimes they are 1 star players like Sasser... it works in part because like Tom Izzo, Sampson is an exceptional judge of talent and has the confidence to go after a player no one wants if he wants him.

People do not realize how good a basketball coach, all around that Sampson is.

Grimes has come quite a way since his arrival here. Kudos to his growth thus far

I'd rather have good 3 star players stay 4 years than a five that plays one.
