While everyone *now* knows trump blatantly lied to the American people about COVID-19, birx reporting it NOW seems a bit late and self-protecting... she should have spoken up when it could have saved many many thousands of lives.
She owed it to the American people to resign and go public with that making it very clear the President was lying.
I was just coming here to post about that interview. It’s a good interview and one people should watch to get a sense of the Shyteshow that was the Trump administration response. I agree Dr.Birx could’ve done more and she admits that but the constraints on her were very difficult and it’s she says that this has ended her career. She also says she knew this would end her career coming into it. It was also interesting to hear how much the mocking she received regarding things like when Trump asked her if injecting bleach could be a treatment, wounded her. She does say this personally affected her and her family also her relationship with Nancy Pelosi who she admired and had worked with on the AIDS epidemic. Overall it’s another example of a distinguished career and reputation that has been ruined by Trump. It’s easy to say from the outside that Dr. Birx should’ve said and done more but at the same time her focus was on trying to address the crisis rather than protect her reputation. We’re still a long way from getting out of this crisis and hopefully she can still help with getting us out of it.
That was an interesting interview for a while, but I got bored with it -- Birx is a tricky one to figure out. I certainly believe her on most of the issues she disputes, but there were definitely times she towed the line a little too much and could have been more forceful in rejecting the outrageous nonsense. In fairness though stronger personalities than hers wilted under the relentless pressure to lie about everything that Trump forces on people.
Sidenote: I don't think Margaret is a good fit on FTN -- I've given her a chance, but she still seems as awkward and uncomfortable as when she started.
Sure that’s not a good look for her and there are many quotes from many people about Trump that are good looks. That said she was in a difficult place and we know for a fact that she disagreed with Trump at time and was trying to stay in a position to help the country. That meant waking a fine line and the fact she was sidelined shows that she wasn’t just a toady to Trump.
The Daily Beast: Fauci’s re-emergence on prime-time television during the Biden era infuriated the exiled Trump, who began whining about how “incompetent” the doctor was, and how he probably should have fired Fauci when he had the chance, a source close to the former president and another individual familiar with the matter tell The Daily Beast. (Technically, Trump did not have the power to fire Fauci, a career federal employee.) On top of everything else that was stripped from him, he’s lost his primary emotional release valve, thanks to his post-Capitol riot banning from Twitter, just as his enemies—real and perceived—keep dancing atop his administration’s freshly dug grave. And it’s not just Fauci. Trump has also griped this weekend about not being able to tweet about the Biden team telling journalists that Trump and ex-officials had left them with a gigantic COVID mess to mop up, according to a person with direct knowledge of his recent ramblings.
yeah, you know, ... “low” ... only 1 in every 600 of us was going to die from the virus within the next 12 months.
