From the path it looks like he hit the median and lost control of his his car. Maybe someone cut him off or he was trying to make a quick maneuver when the lane splits, hits the curbs loses control, and goes off road and down the tree.

Yes, they said he was traveling northbound on Hawthorne. But, his vehicle is on the southbound side of the road. There is a median in the middle of the road. It took me a little while to figure out how he ended up where he did.
That's interesting. Driving an unfamiliar car has caused people to mistake the brake pedal for the gas pedal. Doesn't look like that happened here, though. Unfortunately, they'll probably find pain pills in his system.

LA County Sheriff & LA County Fire Department: 7:12am, received call. Arrived at 7:18. Solo vehicle, solo occupant, did not see evidence of impairment. 7:22am, resources from LACFD received report of solo vehicle accident. Upon arrival, resources observed single rollover incident with one person trapped. Extricated by personnel. Prying tool and axe were used to pry the person free. Person was in stable condition with serious injuries. Vehicle is 2021 Genesis. Was conscious. No evidence of impairment. No effort to draw blood at the hospital. Jaws of life were not used. Serious injuries to both legs. Not airlifted. Weather is not a factor. Able to communicate, was conscious. Cabin was intact, front end destroyed, air bags deployed. Was wearing a seatbelt. Mr. Woods not able to stand under his own power. Put onto a backboard.
