Unfortunately many don't have rich ass parents and are starting from scratch and most of them will never sniff the possiblity of owning a home.

I was being glib but you’re absolutely correct. Even if you have rich ass parents your Millennial younger sibling(s) are bleeding them dry while they’re still alive right in front of your Gen X face.:eek:

On my 7th or 8th birthday, my sister got me a joke book, Truly Tasteless Jokes. Definitely became a more cultured kid, spreading stereotypes of groups I had zero clue about. Needless to say some jokes were a hit all the way through high school.

Parenting only accounts for half of how a kid will turn out. Who their friends are, their schools, what they do in their spare time...can't totally control that.

With the ever present internet, it's not even about how a kid from the neighborhood snatched a playboy or porno tape anymore. Nowadays, the little ****s drop links on google spreadsheets let alone some random app like tik tok or snap.

I guess w/ covid, it's prison parenting, but that's not a discussion for the here and now.

That still does not take into account the fact that those prices still affect me and my generation.

Yes some older residents are benefitting but what about the older residents who don't own homes and are getting priced out of neighborhoods and cities or cannot afford to keep up with the taxes?

These things affect every age group not just millennials.

Thanks again for illustrating my point.

Some? Dude, 75% of white families in the US own homes. Most of them are going to be gen x and boomers. Families average 2 offspring so even that wealth will be split up.

Data shows that they have accrued wealth far more easily than the current generation of millennials due to increased home prices, education costs and healthcare costs. Healthcare costs do apply to all generations. I'll give you that. But education and housing? **** no. The older generations got theirs when it was signficantly cheaper.

    Data conflicts with your premise.

@tinman You're more offended at being told that the content could be offensive than the content itself. Ironic.

My CDs had Offensive Content labels on them since 1996. But I was not about to boycott the CDs. Maybe boycott Walmart

    Am I white?

What does that have to do with anything I said?

I have no idea of why you are so hell bent on pitting groups of people against each other, education and housing prices affect me and my friends and I am a Gen xer, so **** you with your the older generation got theirs B.S.

The actual real world conflicts with your premise.

I see why you are the way you are, you are a walking grievance and want to attack anyone that is not in your group, reminds me of another group of people.

Dude I don't give a **** about your anecdotal experience.

75% of boomers own a home.

60% of gen xers own a home.

40% of millennials own a home.

Thus the median home value of 320 grand today negatively effects millennials signficantly more while it signficantly benefits boomers and gen xers signficantly more. Also given the average age of our legislators at the local, state and federal level means they will pass legislation that disproportionately benefit current homeowners such as in Cali with prop 13.

That is why we care about data when discussing systemic trends rather than your self pity anecdote of being hard worker.

Then on top of that millennials are burdened with signficantly more student loan debt compared to previous generations as education costs have doubled inflation also.

This isn't about self-pity. This is about a unsustainable trend that will eventually break down society dumbass.

Why are you calling me out of name?

I agree that this is unsastainable but it's not just a millenial problem.

You are the poster child of what I was talking about.

    https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/mortgages/millennials-and-homebuying/

    FACTS ON MILLENNIALS AND HOMEBUYING
    • U.S. millennials total 66 million individuals and 24 million independent households [1].
    • The median age for first-time homebuyers has remained virtually unchanged for the past 40 years: In 2015 it was 31 years old, compared with 30.6 in 1970-74 [2].
    • Two-thirds of millennials haven’t reached that homebuying age of 31, and 22% are under 25 years old [3].
    • Millennials are renting for a median of six years before buying, compared with a median of five years for renters in 1980 [4].
    • Millennials are expected to form 20 million new households by 2025 [5].
    • The median income for a millennial older than 25 is $38,220 [6].
NEW HOMEOWNERSHIP IS DOWN AMONG ALL AGE GROUPS
As a percentage of all homebuyers, the number of first-time owners has fallen significantly since the Great Recession. The National Association of Realtors report Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends, from March 2016, shows that first-time homeowners make up 32% of all buyers — compared with a historical average of 40%. That’s the lowest percentage since 1987 [7]. Meanwhile, the number of millennials living with their parents has increased nearly 15% from 2006 to 2013 [8].

Homeownership in general has declined across all age groups, as well. The U.S. homeownership rate was down for the 11th consecutive year in 2015 — from a peak of 69% in 2004 to 63.7% in 2015, the lowest level since 1994 [9].

I’ve watched some of that stuff. But I’d rather stare at the wall for three days than go to Disney. At least in Florida. I’d go to Disney in California I guess.

The point still is flying over your head.

It's the relative difference and which group owns the largest percentage of homes.

Yes, many millennials haven't reached the home buying age yet, but that still doesn't discredit the fact that when they reach that age they are still going to be attempting to buy a home in a market where the median home value has greatly outpaced inflation meaning they have to literally work harder or take out a mortgage that is more absurd compared to previous generations.

Again, HOME VALUES HAVE GREATLY OUTPACED INFLATION. That means the generations that own a larger percentage of the home market which is objectively boomers(75%) and gen X'ers(60%) compared to millennials(40%) are going to benefit more at a RELATIVE scale when home values outpace inflation while millennials are going to be ****ed over more.

The amount of boomers and gen X'ers that are going to be first time homebuyers in today's market is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of first time homebuyers amongst mellinials.

When millennials are called entitled when they objectively have to work harder to become homeowners than previous generations is insulting.
