It is actually nice to see both Russ and Harden balling at the same time period.

Not going to be salty but complimentary.

 

There were stretches last season where the Rockets looked completely unstoppable when Russ was playing well. Including the first game in the Lakers playoff series when the Rockets won by 15 points. The problem is that there were also stretches where Russ looked like the worst player on the court. Such is the problem with teams whose scoring comes disproportionately from ball-dominant guards. The Rockets had two such players last year. Very streaky... and when the outside shots aren't falling and the guards can't get to the basket (like in the playoffs when defenses improve), it leads to losing. It's not a winning recipe in the playoffs over a 7-game series. But any given night you have the ability to blast the opposing team out of the gym.

Yes, but what was the “winning recipe” that the other 3 teams used to lose against the Lakers, last year?

I never understand why fans critique their team systemic issues with why they lost to the champions, ignoring why all the other teams lost to them, too. Not like every team plays the same.

 

Well, it has never been a winning recipe to have guard-focused, ball-dominant players lead a championship team. Even when winning teams had a high percentage of points scored by guards (Warriors), they were not ball-dominant players. They had incredible passing attacks. We lost to the Lakers last year, because we played the Lakers. We would have lost to several other teams in the playoffs had we been matched up differently. My points stand, yours fall.

If our other ball dominant guard was any guard other than Westbrook things would have been much different. Not saying we win the series but it’s not a 4-1 gentleman’s sweep.

Im not sure everyone grasps how bad Westbrook was in the playoffs last year.
