Yeah, I understand that, but putting asterisks notating career highs for 17 games is dumb.

I am willing to bet any amount of money there are 17 games stretch where those numbers are easily eclipsed.

Normally I'd agree with you about small sample size but Nets offense is trending towards the most efficient offense in history of NBA.

It's going to crush that historic offense that Mavs had last season, it will not be even close.

MDA offenses own 5 of the 6 greatest offenses in history of NBA but Nets are going to be unbelievably efficient and productive this season.

No doubt, I’m not even arguing your initial point.
I’m just saying it’s disingenuous of CBS to claim career highs (which aren’t much higher than whole season career highs) after 17 games.

Yes I understand the talent in the g league is better than college lol.

the question here is ... is Kuminga’s g league performance the type that makes him a sure fire top 3 pick for example. And that’s hard for me to say. He obviously has the size and athleticism to do things like compete at that level, grab boards, etc. but his efficiency is I guess what you’d expect of an 18 year old playing against that type of talent. It’s just a little disappointing to see a lack of a legit 3 point shot at this point. You’d think in 2021 that these kids would be marksmen that are projected at the top of the draft.

all else being equal - meaning a bunch of other attributes being similar and that these are all guys that can compete at a pro level athletically - the three point shot might be the top skill now needed to impact nba games.

I heard one of the game announcers mention that KPJ averaged more ppg in his rookie season than he did in his one and only season in college. Interesting.

I dunno man I mean G League has the legit 3 pt line and better comp NCAA has the shorter line and much weaker defenders. Im not a draft junkie so I wouldnt know or even care what rank he is I just know his perf is more impressive given his age.

hes ranked pretty high on most mocks I’ve seen. Top 3 to top 5.

he’s currently hitting 22% of his threes in 5 attempts a game. Slightly further three point line or not... that’s not good.

I haven’t seen much beyond select highlights so can’t say if the misses are tough one on one pull-ups or what. And heck, KD shot just 29% from three his rookie year.

but it goes a bit to my original comment. Even with better talent than college is there a bit of a g league element where players that are nba level soon get that green light? It’s always felt that way to me, where you get the Harty types that go down there and dominate and one light think of this guys going to be decent nba player for sure and it’s ... nah, not really... way better thanks college players and better still than most g league players but still just not there....

I definitely get that college is worse talent overall... but there’s something n the fact I’ve been watching it also most of my life I can perhaps more easily gauge talent level there relative to the rest and there’s something about the lack of spacing, slower game, that seeing prospects fit into o can more easily gauge where they might end up.

I just barely watch g league beyond highlights or select quarters and as such it’s just hard to judge.

like Porter looks like a freaking stud for sure. But I’m not going to be shocked if he never does much for the Rockets... you just never know.

If you have the option, you might try a different browser. It wouldn't play for me with my default browser, but it worked in MS Edge.

I'm not sure what the video was supposed to demonstrate but it made me like the kid more.

Also, the expectations some have for him at this point are off the charts crazy.

I'm using MS edge .... tried it in chrome and it didn't work either. That's why I asked for a link to where it came from.

Honestly I don't know what Sac plans are with Hield Fox and Haliburton on the team but I'd really love to steal one of their pg's.

Thanks ... I found it , I'd seen that when he was first traded here.

Really doesn't explain the "demons / mental issues" ....

As for the loss of his dad , I think we've all lost someone close to us. I lost my dad when I was 8 , he was killed in our living room , shot 9 times & I saw the whole thing go down. Tragic and traumatic to be certain .... but not an excuse for me.

That's not an attempt to minimize his loss either .... Just don't see that as the demons & batsh!t crazy we continue to hear about this kid.

He lost his father when he was 4 years old. His dad was shot and killed trying to help someone less than a block from his home. Porter walked by where his father was killed every day while growing up. He also grew up in relative poverty and surrounded by violence.

He was suspended in high school for misconduct. He was suspended in college for misconduct and he has now been suspended in the NBA for misconduct.

He has been arrested on gun charges. He has also tweeted weird suicide type messages. He was out on personal leave to start the season.

When Porter returned he found out that his locker had been moved. He responded by cussing out the Cavs staff and front office. He then returned and started throwing food. The Cavs asked him to leave.

Porter came back later and tried to return to practice and wasn’t allowed in. His response was to compare his inability to practice to slavery.

He also has had women come forward and claim he and his sister punched him in the face.

The off the court issues were so bad that there were reports of USC not inviting him back for his sophomore year... now the Cavs dealt him for nothing.

Porter is trouble. That can change, people change but a lot of times they don’t.

Porter was a 5 star prospect entering college. He was projected to be a lottery pick coming out of college because of his obvious talent. The reports and investigations done by the teams around the league were so bad he slipped to #30.

The Cavs are rebuilding. They need young talented players like Porter. They held him out to start this season because of off the court issues. They ended up trading him to Houston for a second rounder that is heavily protected. The Cavs cannot afford to give talent away, and they did - it has been that bad.

I remember listening to a podcast discussing Porter and they said he was diagnosed as bi polar. I cannot find that diagnosis anywhere else.

I am not concerned about his own the court talent. He is capable (with focus and stability) of making numerous all states games and being a top lead guard in the NBA. There are few things he cannot do on the court. My concern is off the court and dysfunction off the court will lead him to not being an NBA player.

My only caution is to those Rockets fans that have him as the future cornerstone of the rebuild, that is counting on someone very volatile and young to lead an organization. The odds of him being an NBA player in 5 years are long. Hopefully he gets the help he needs both through counseling and medicinally.

That explains a lot .... thanks.

    Manic depression / bi polarism.

I had read something of him comparing "things" to slavery ..... Didn't realize it was his not being allowed to practice.

Basically what we have is a very immature individual who's a manic depressive.

You have to wonder how severe his manic depressive state is.
Some people can function normally with medication , others just can't function within society's norms , a large percentage of those end up incarcerated.

Great post. Unfortunately, KPJ is currently the only rainbow I can see at the moment after the storm so although everything you’ve said makes sense, he is practically the only thing I am willing to be optimistic about right now. Not potential trades, not the BKN draft picks. Nothing! So I’m not willing to give up the only hope I have just because he’s crazy. He and I will be crazy together then hahaha!
