not sure how that HEB is rationing things this time around, but a lot of those people, especially at the end, might as well turn back and look elsewhere because those shelves will be empty...they’ll be waiting out in the cold for a bag of chips

I got admonished for posting a tweet from our Texas leadership earlier in this thread so I'll keep the Cancun Cruz tweets in the D&D thread.

I just found out I might have to take a the whole week off because we don't have power. This is going to be a costly storm because a lot of necessity is going to be out when Houston comes back. A lot of bills (plumber, electric) and food prices (vegetable, milk) are going to skyrocket, be prepare. I thought 2020 ended..... can't complain still have another day coming.

So far, I've been out of commission work wise for 3 days. HR said Tues they are still deciding on what to do for our time sheets. Hopefully they don't make us all use PTO. I feel you though.

Information on how to help out and warming centers in major metro areas. With cold, no power, and no water don't take any chances. Get warm and hydrated, especially for those more physically vulnerable.
    https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/16/texas-power-outage-help-warming-shelter/

    Houston Area:
    Houston:
Lakewood Church, the Gallery Furniture store and multiple other warming shelters have opened in the area. Accommodations vary by shelter, but most have blankets and other supplies for people in the Houston area seeking warmth. The George R. Brown Convention Center opened as a warming center, but it is at full capacity and it is no longer accepting more people, according to KHOU.

Homeless outreach teams from the sheriff’s office, police department, and homeless outreach groups have worked to provide rides to the warming centers. Houston area residents can call the Harris County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line at 713-221-6000 or 311 for information about shelter or transportation.

The sheriff’s office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) has been providing items like coats, blankets and tents to people experiencing homelessness who are not in a warming center. People can donate here to any of the organizations in The Way Home, a coalition of organizations working to prevent homelessness.

First the system has to get back which is supposed to happen later today.

Then you have water mains busted all over and neighborhoods without water. That will take a very long time to complete fixes on. Not to mention all the empty cold houses that will be wide open when the water comes back draining the system.

btw, I was successful getting to my daughter yesterday afternoon. Hardy toll road was closed (at least the on-ramp off 45 at The Woodlands, but 45 to 288/59 to Kirby was clear. Couldn't believe how cold her apartment was (thermostat said 45 degrees but seemed colder). Thanks again @heypartner for your kind offer of help.

I don't trust Centerpoint or these numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if that's 525k people who haven't had power in 24 hours, the rest of us have a yo-yo.
