Calling KPJ just a gleaguer is silly and out of context and a clear showing of not understanding the situation. He isn't in the g-league for playing ability. At 19 in the NBA he already was averaging double digit points on decent efficiency in his rookie year.

Look at the Cp3 to LAC trade. The vetoed Laker trade would gotten them Dragic, KMart, Scola and Odom iirc. But they got the LAC trade instead. What was the best asset in that trade? The right to suck. And that right turned into Anthony freaking Davis. Right now we have the right to suck and we better use that damn right.

Tip Jar Bet? $20 that Oladipo, Exum and the TE are revealed to have more value than "literally no value".

    What SHOULD have been.

    Simmons-Wood-Porter

This should have been the foundation of Rockets rebuild.

With Wall as the 6th man.

Rather EGo as 6th man but Rockets are absolutely stuck with Wall contract for at least a season.

    Can Dipo make a case?

lets also remeber minesota... they had a few no1 picks not only top 4... where are they now? and some of the picks turnout are great players... still not even a po contender
lolololol ...made playoffs once in 2 decades
and half of the league is like that... being bad and getting the picks did them no good... its was like giving a heroin addict some money to buy more drugs...it did them no good...I suspect its even bad for the players... the get destroyed playing for the loser culture

@D-rock I know you are a huge Simmons fan, which is fine. But do you have to flood a Dipo thread with Ben Simmons stuff? Start a Simmons thread in the Dish.

I respect the troll job, but let's keep in mind Simmons has shown nothing in the playoffs. Until Philadelphia wins -- or at least Simmons can prove he's not a liability over a seven game series -- then regular season highlights are meaningless.

That's not to say Oladipo is better, just that if Simmons proves to be a liability when it matters the most then at least be open to the chance that the Houston front office may have felt Simmons wouldn't help the team win a title.

    Did Dipo?

At least Simmons is only 24 and will earn his 3rd All Star and likely DPOY.

Dipo is 28 already and cant even play B2B.

7 games series have jack to do with rebuilding teams.

You must have missed the memo.

Getting the best young players was the GOAL.

From this perspective, the same could have been said about Harden for regular season's greatness but a complete dud in multiple late playoffs situations. I do not think anyone thinks Simmons alone is a ticket to the championship but surround him with other complementary stars could have been a good starting point for rebuilding. But everyone valued Harden so highly that it literally did not feel other teams were offering much in return and I feel eventually it was a distress trade where we did land multiple picks but I think they could have done better in landing a proven young star in the making also.

Now we sit and wait and hope/pray that the Rockets are able to land a superstar via lottery. Most prospects fail to live up to the hype.

Not only do draft prospects mostly fail to live up to hype but their youth and inexperience usually means that their potential is not realized for YEARS if they do materialize into franchise players at all.

Rockets are trying to build around Wood who is already starting to fulfill his potential and ready to win NOW.

Well yeah. I guess the thinking with the Houston front office was that with Simmons it's an odd timeline if other stars are needed as well and Houston wouldn't have been bad enough in the draft. Plus these days Houston hasn't been the desired free agent landing spot.

Now obviously having Simmons at worst would be yet another valuable trade piece, but I guess the long-term thinking may suggest that it delays Houston's inevitable tank as it keeps them in non-contending purgatory longer. Of course there's no definitive timeframe for how long a tank will last and a lot of luck is needed.

The last top prospect Houston got in the draft was Yao nearly 20 years ago. Still, the draft is a crapshoot outside of the top couple of picks so again, the team needs luck. If they can manage to nab a top 2/3 pick this year and grab a true generational "once every 20 years" type of player then all is well. It could mean more of a rebound versus rebuild, perhaps not as golden as the Spurs tank for Duncan in '97, but rivaling that of Memphis these last couple of years -- perhaps better if other pieces exceed expectations (mainly: Porter).

More likely, unfortunately, is some level of purgatory for a couple of years until another major move happens. For the love of everyone, just hope the franchise avoids the recent fate of Detroit, Minnesota, Cleveland, Sacramento, New York or even Chicago.

    Save the Rockets, Stone.
