have had no electricity or hot water all day...smh, Texas always unprepared for everything this is ridiculous
Abbott is blaming ercot. He has power over them. They work for the puc. He should have oversight over them. They should have had people wrapping foams across the pipes. He should have deployed national guard to do it. Turner is blaming Abbott. Abbott is blaming ercot. Ercot is blaming is the producers. I think ercot execs should have been fired yesterday. Also stop putting accountants in charge of utilities.
Good luck to you all. Just want to say it is absolutely not normal to have 2 freaking days electricity and water blackout in a huge metropolis because of a simple snowstorm. I checked the weather and it said it only reached -10 C it's not like you had -30.
Everyone and their momma was in the Lowe's plumbing aisle earlier. How did you find out you had a busted pipe?
We lost power for 11 hours even with generator it was still cold- need a bigger portable heater, or a window A/C as backup. I had my aunt and uncle to come over to stay, I believe their powers are now back on. We went driving around looking for gas for generator (just in case power goes out again), only Circle K (previous Valero has) after hitting 3 gas stations including a Walmart. If you guys are venturing out tomorrow make sure you get gas before hitting places of need. I suspect some gas stations won't be open because of supply and truckers bringing gas not working. Remember this is a 1 time experience, we probaly won't see it again. Stay warm......
Oh don't worry , I'll do my part and continue using f**king none of it. What an embarrassment. Im not easily aggravated. Had they simply said your area drew the short straw I could have made plans. This power supply grabass is not OK.
So do we have a legit explanation for this clusterfck yet? The buck keeps getting passed up the chain. It sounds more and more like Texas being on an island in terms of power supply simply ended up biting itself in the ass.
Does this **** happen in Europe or do we just get inclement weather in America? Or maybe our infrastructure is just trash due to "free market" BS?
We’re safe and warm finally. Our South Austin hood still has no power. Closing in on the 48 hour mark. We have no water here, but I’ll take power and warmth over water. We’re melting snow and using that to flush toilets
Negative ten in a city like Houston is a big deal. The coldest recorded temperature in Houston ever was 5 degrees for a few years. So it isn’t really just a storm.
My parents lost power in Tomball 24 hours ago and lost water shortly after. Now a pipe has burst in the house. They want to try to drive to Austin tomorrow. What're the roads looking like in northwest Houston? There's still a lot of snow and ice on the ground in Austin, but the main roads have one thawed lane that most people go single file in that is drivable.
They cannot pass the buck on water. Hopefully they get roasted for people not having it. Thats smart. Good attitude.
I still can't believe they didn't provide serious advance warning about this storm possibly knocking out power for such a long time -- being prepared for this would have made it much easier to navigate. There is no way those in charge didn't know this was a possibility... none. Give a cone of uncertainty -- anything.
sure but this should have still been avoided or at least somewhat mitigated. Seeing the culmination of bad policies/planning over the last several years. Hindsight is 20/20 of course but still
Been without power since bout 7am . Water at a trickle now . biggest thing I don’t get is my internet has been **** . I guess everyone trying to use ? funalky able to load pages now . Of course , CF is a first priority
