Agreed, but I would be much firmer with an employee that I just gave a $27 million bonus with $111 million guaranteed. BTW, the new CBA makes the fines for holding out mandatory.
They got the GM they've been chasing for atleast the past fifteen months. So they didn't bungle the GM search. Agreed about the second part of your post about not letting football people make football decisions. Hopefully this changes like Cal said it would and Caserio will be making all of the football decisions.
may thanks. I couldn’t tell for certain from the article. Makes it easier. Out of their hands. As for the second part... maybe just a matter of personal preference. I think being super aggressive/hard in stance doesn’t advance the situation. Need to be firm and clear in your position and not love from that... but in a completely professional and calm way.
As Madden said, "Winning is the best deodorant." If Caserio drafts well and Culley coaches well, the Texans will win. Period. And my guess is if they were to win a lot of the complaining about 'culture' and stuff instantly go away. I mean yeah, look at the Patriots owner, coach, and QB. All big MAGA guys and they had no issues winning and everyone praised their 'culture'. The Seahawks are of course the opposite of that. At the end of the day in sports, results drive the narrative.
it’s not even worth an argument. The NFL (and all pro sports) has a long history of valuing winning over any kind of toxicity or anything else off court/field. Vick, Colin, Ray Rice, the Cowboys dudes, heck the DW story is months in now and still garnering more attention than the Urban Meyer story. If it was about toxicity... Urban and his new assistant would be fired already. if someone can help you win they get to keep playing/their jobs otherwise no.
They were negotiating a contract with a different candidate until Easterby stepped in spanked Cal and made him hire Caserio, who’s under Easterby’s thumb as well. If you were going to hire Caserio from the jump why hire Korn Ferry? Why negotiate with Kahn? Why waste everyone’s time? It was a farce. Typical for these clowns though.
I dont believe they were in negotiations with Khan. That was Korn Ferry's BS. But even if he was that only means he did what Dungy told him to do when it came to hiring his GM. Go with his gut and he thought Caserio was the best hire. He certainly had the credentials.
Let me get this straight - the same brain trust that hired BOB, traded Hopkins, released Watt, hired Easterby, fired Gaines, promoted Easterby, hired someone named Culley, tore down the entire franchise for Easterby, and oh ya.... bungled the caserio hire the first time... this is who you’re praising for hiring the guy they wanted? This is your barometer? Good lord.
I really hope the Texans give real serious consideration to trading him before the draft, as their next franchise QB could be in it. While I want and wish Watson could retire a Texan, I think the relationship is beyond repair at this point. Even if the Texans play hardball, I don't see how a disgruntled QB is going to be conducive to a healthy locker room, or even good play on the field. In a perfect world, the Texans would somehow get Watson to buy in, but I have no confidence in the front office or ownership at this point.
I'll give you a serious answer, but I'm not sure that it's what you are looking for. The reason they hired Korn Ferry was to satisfy themselves that there wasn't a great candidate out there that they didn't have access to... or didn't consider. Happens all the time in corporate America -- you have a candidate in mind, but you (or the board) want to test the waters before committing to your candidate. If the search firm doesn't bring a superior candidate, then you hire your guy. A board or an organization would never commit themselves to hiring the search firm's recommendation. That just doesn't happen (and the search firms know this and agree) -- you don't outsource the decision making.
Maybe they weren’t in negotiations but things definitely seem headed in that direction. But with everything that has been reported prior to and after the hire, I don't see any reason to downplay Florio's report that Easterby swooped in last minute and convinced Cal. Almost everything in that article has proven to be spot on.
I guess this is the part I don't really understand. It strengthens DW's position if he agrees to meet and listen to what they have to say. He can always still demand a trade, but if gives him a chance to directly explain his grievances. In the end, this stalemate only gives the Texans hope he'll come around and its delaying the Team's ability to make a decision to hold firm or shop him before the draft. I hate drama and not answering calls is just creating more drama.
And if I am the Texans, I ignore his trade request. You don't want to talk, I don't want to trade. Odds are Texans are going to be bad this season. Ok, go 0-16 with Watson sitting. Have the #1 over pick in 2022 and STILL have Watson. Let him sit.
That’s the best case scenario. He sits a season, we get the first pick and THEN trade him for a bunch of picks and actually rebuild properly
The alternative is being upset that they didn't pick the Korn Ferry guy. Korn Ferry is the same brain-trust that recommended most of those people above. It's a lose lose.
