Someone needs to tell her quick that the path she's on is just becoming another Lindsay Graham who the American public (even those who vote for him because they love Trump, and hate Democrats) have zero respect for him.

And if Nikki Haley wants a chance at winning the presidency even if she miraculously gets the Republican nomination, she's going to need people who voted for Joe Biden to cross back over the isle and vote for her. Are there 7 million voters in Biden's voter pool that would vote for Lindsay Graham as president???... Nikki Haley is on that path with the Trump on-off-on-super on-kinda on approach.

Sasse's strategy is that if the party does turn against Trump by 2024, he's going to be of the few credible people on the other side. Haley seems to be stuck in no-man's land. Any sense of disloyalty to Trump like what she's saying here will turn the Trumpsters against her. But she's allied enough with Trump to turn off the anti-Trumpers too. So I'm not sure what lane she's leaving herself with. I think Sasse best understands that there are factors out of his control so he just needs to pick a lane and stick with it, and hope that fortune turns his way.

Huge misstep by Nikki. There was no need to say anything at this point. Just let all this play out and then decide where to go. Now all the Trumpers will be anti Nikki. Trump could die of a heart attack tomorrow and Nikki will still be hated by the Trumpers. There was no need to go all in at this point. The Republicans were never going to convict Trump. That was never going to happen.

I agree with this and Dobro’s post. The problem for Republicans wanting to be president in 2024 is if you’re going to be all in on Trump you have to hope he doesn’t run. Just because Ted Cruz carried a lot of water for Trump doesn’t mean that Trump voters will vote for him over Trump himself. Any hope for a Republican to unseat Trump is it be anti Trump.

Thats obviously easier said than done but what are Cruz and Graham going to do if it’s them against Trump again in 2024? Claim they did everything they did for Trump during his presidency while he insults them again?

At least for someone like Sasse he can claim the anti Trump high ground and hope that by 2024 there are enough Republicans who don’t want to go back to Trump to get him through.

Yeah and I think Sasse or whoever will take the lead in the primary as the anti Trump Republican will be running to be the last man standing against Trump in the primary up to Super Tuesday. They’ll know it’s a stretch to think that they can have that many voters of their base flip on Trump and it’ll be a strategy of hoping there is a “come home” vote in the general election if they beat Trump after Super Tuesday.

So nobody should be confused about why I’d think a Ben Sasse has a chance because I don’t think they do. However I think he’s probably got the best chance at the moment of being the last man standing up to Super Tuesday. Cruz, Hawley, and likely Haley won’t stand a chance even if Trump cannot run and it’s Don Jr. running as the heir apparent. You just cannot get on stage running against Trump having stood by him throughout the insurrection and impeachment. Trump voters will just be confused as what you are doing and respect you even less than they respect Lady Lindsay who they think nothing of.

Im already torn whether or not ill be tuning into the FoxNews primary debates where Cruz, Hawley, and Haley make their case in cheesy 30 second sound bites and then Trump buts in to say “Loser Hawley over here can’t even lift a golf club” and “Hot for Trump Haley” or whatever innuendo he provides to wink wink at the crowd that she wants to F him. Trump definitely has lost a few steps, is more scary now than anything, and isn’t funny to watch anymore because he’s lost touch with any level of reality he is on, but I’m sure he’ll still at least be able to properly take down the most easy to take down idiots of 2024 who run against him or his son.

Someone like Sasse will last much much longer in the primary because of this and the insurrection point will probably be the biggest contrasting point you’ll be able to make at that point and Haley’s support for Trump through most of that “stop the steal” process will kill her candidacy if she decides to run anti Trump.

Another thing we have to consider is that 4 years is long time in politics. Trump's support might not be as strong with him not in the public eye and more importantly not on social media then as it is now. If Trumpists take a beating in the 2022 elections and the Republicans lose seats in Congress it's possible that the party could look to someone who wasn't associated or even anti-Trump in 2024 as their chance to win Nationally.

2022 is very important to the future identity of the Republican party.

Chances are the Trump wing will do well and revive Trumps 2024 bid for him.

This is not all that of bad news for Republicans, because despite a mismanaged depression and pandemic, Trump only lost in 2020 by 45k votes across 3 states.

I think that almost enough data is in and enough time has passed for us to know for sure that there will never be a "trump reckoning" where we have an 84 or 72 style bloodbath election for Republicans.

Trump owns the Republican party now. He's not locked in there with them, they're locked in there with him. They have no choice but to capitulate. Their one chance to move on was this impeach vote, and McConnell didn't have the guts.

The only caveat to this is January 6th and the follow on from that. If more trump doofuses start shooting people and blowing things up they will ultimately make Republicans unelectable for the next election cycle.

Doesn't matter, no GOP candidate would win the Presidency in 2024. They already lost with their messiah, they are going to be more divided between Trumpers and Conservatives, their only legislative paths are obstruction or agreement and people know it's time for real action.

    Let's see, I said 72 hours?

Sorry it was 96 hours folks, 96 hours - I deeply regret the erroneous prediction! Was a holiday weekend though,so, off by a day is not so bad.

What a coward, and anybody who votes for her shares that cowardice.

    This.

Trump has the "it" factor and charisma that cannot be matched by someone that just has a good resume and makes a good story.

It's no different than if they changed the rule so President's could have 3-4 terms...... Obama would crush everyone on the democrats side.

That's the worst orgy anyone's ever thought of.

Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnel, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shumer and both Cuomos.

    You sick b*stard.

She is done. Dems who feared her were right... until now. Trump runs the R's now and anyone else is going to be left out in the cold. She may as well join the D's... same with other Rinos like Mitt Romney who is a disappointment to his god and people.
