Exactly! Those Senators like Cruz, and others involved in the Stop the Steal incitement should be disqualified from even casting votes. They obviously will side with the man whose boots they were licking. Trump's toy soldiers helped stir up Trump's "Army" to storm the Capitol. Traitors! All of them.

To be fair to Cassidy he was one of the Senators who changed his mind on voting whether it was Constitutional for the Senate to hear the trial.

In my view the strongest argument made yesterday was that the President isn't like any other person but is duty bound by an oath to not only the Constitution but also to enforce the laws. There is a lot of whataboutism out there and I expect the defense will feature that with a lot of playing of Democratic politicians saying things like "fight!". None of them are the President and as the House Managers noted the President has a special duty.

And I hope if I ever commit a serious crime members of my defense team are also able to sit on the jury.

That allows him to straddle the line when asked to defend his acquittal vote...

It might but I don't see what he really has to gain for changing his mind on that vote. It's not going to help him with his base even if he still votes to acquit.

If you can view these statements are meant for the bubble of alt-reality Trump and his followers live in, it makes total sense. Fox News is hiding (canceling the impeachment trials because you know) but definitely will be airing these statements and boom, followers rejoice. That's just the reality we live in. I haven't followed this trial so closely but I'm hoping that the DEM aims here are two folds. 1- for the history book and 2- win over centric and reasonable conservative. Those are the only achievable goals. There will be no conviction, no accountability, no changing Senate Republican minds (ok, maybe 1).

This came up last time too, with Republicans saying Dem presidential candidates should recuse themselves since they had an obvious interest in the outcome. The whole Senate is hopelessly conflicted though. It's a zero sum game. With any impeachment, every Senator has a self-interest in the outcome. But, there is no other mechanism of democratic accountability I can think of. So, I think they should all vote anyway.

But it does mean we're very vulnerable to fascism. We need to vote smarter.

Can senators be arrested? Why not just charge Cruz with treason?

Typical trump supporter defense. First, trump wasn't impeached for saying "fight". Second, a large group of Democrats weren't incited to go in mass to attack the capital, kill police, threaten the vice president, threaten the Speaker of the House and other congressmen. And third, Democrats didn't wait hours before getting the overwhelmed Capital Police help.

Rather, the president who was impeached did.

You might want to add more context cause you know, we might just get brain washed.

The GOP incited this revolt and the people in the Senate SKIPPING the trial are complicit.

    The Republican party is dead.

Both sides are complicit to our current state. Politics are depressing. Too much hate. The perspective of folks on the left is that they are blameless and of a higher moral quality. There is no shame in that feeling.

Women everywhere that fight back their rapists is complicit in the violent toward women. Women of course aren’t blameless in how they flirt, wear sexy cloth, dance dirty and treating other women and men badly. This is a great defense for the rapist.

I disagree. That is not a good defense.

Why ignore the fact that trump said to be peaceful? I understand the benefits of saying trump incited the incident but it didnt happen. We should be focusing on other things. Trump is gone.
