“I think the organization is in a great place from a business perspective,” Rootes said Wednesday morning. “We’ve got a great leadership team. I thought the time was right for me to do something different.

“I’m young enough to find a new opportunity to create something new.”

“I love Cal like a brother,” Rootes said. “This idea (resigning) isn’t new to me. When Bob’s health started to decline, I thought it was important for the organization to have stability during this window. When Bob passed away, I felt like I owed it to Cal to be here.”

Rootes said he plans to take off at least six months to spend more time with his family. He’ll continue to promote his book, teach at the University of Houston and do some public speaking.

“I want to carve out ample time to decide what’s best for me going forward,” he said. “This (resignation) is difficult because of the people. They’re special to me. I feed off the energy of our fans, our staff and our customers, and I’m going to miss them.”

Rootes’ longtime right-hand man, senior vice president of corporate development Greg Grissom, will oversee the business operation until a new president is hired. Grissom has been with the Texans since 2002.

LOL Rootes has seen enough! Cant blame him. This franchise is a joke and anyone linked to it will be branded an ignorant evangelical who places winning football games AFTER saying grace.

"Love the people in the building." In before, it's common for team presidents just pimping their book before the year began to suddenly feel the urge to quit. Nothing to see here.

    From PFT's Omar Kahn/Easterby report:

But don't worry Cal and Pancakes will continue to tell us that none of this is true. Believe I also read that Rootes' leaving would not sit well with a lot of business/corporate partners. If anything, let's hope this part is true.

He's just taking a gap half year to spend time with his kids who live on the East Coast. No big deal.

This is the big one, guys. Rootes was a day 1 Texans employee and deeply committed to this organization and that family. I think the faucet is about to turn on full-blast. Palcic was almost certainly the primary source for much of the SI reporting - she knew *some* things but not everything. Rootes is going to be able to fully expose this clown show. Not right away - he'll let his name fade. But he knows EVERYBODY.

    Just wait........

Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6 , not 7. Seven consecutive first overall picks.

Resigning in February vs resigning in January really helped out the perception of this team.

Not sure what is worse, hearing Cal actually say this or hearing Cal say this in my head while reading it.
