Trumps lawyers were an embarrassment. Incomprehensible nonsense. Just like Trump himself. How do you do such a bad job on style and substance in a national proceeding.

Elephants never forget. They still think they could've "won Vietnam if only there weren't traitors to their cause" or "kept Nixon if only there weren't traitors to their party".

Part of the reason for not convicting Trump (twice) was so they didn't have to bear with the embarrassment of having "one of their own" be an concrete and indisputable stain throughout history.

Reagan can be spun and glorified from half-awake vegetable into Great Speaker and Conquerer of Communism because there's nothing on record of where he ****ed up. Even the Iran Contra scandal was buried, it's co-conspirators pardoned.

These Senators are making a mockery of the system. How can you sit there and listen to an argument that doesn't convince you, however, since you've already pre-determined your vote, you don't really care how stupid they sound. I swear, I wish there was a better way to handle this, but as always it has turned into a Democrat vs Republican thing.

He didn't seem to have any issue impeaching a president no longer in office...

Another blatant lie that trump's defense team floated out there was that trump was immediately "horrified" by the Capitol attack and took immediate steps. The attached reporting completely shatters that defense...

Trump’s lawyers say he was immediately ‘horrified’ by the Capitol attack. Here’s what his allies and aides said really happened that day

While its possible that its virtually impossible to find a lawyer that has not been involved in a lawsuit or criminal case involving trump, I wonder if this is some sort of safety valve in case he gets convicted (filing suit against his defense team)?

One of Trump’s impeachment lawyers sued him last year — and accused him of making claims about fraud with ‘no evidence’

I missed most of the hearings yesterday but caught Schoen's arguments. While forceful they were as expecting misleading and misrepresenting much of the facts. For example claiming that Pelosi deliberately sat on the article of impeachment to wait until Trump was out of office.

The facts regarding Trump's guilt are overwhelming and that Trump's own defense attorney's have conceded they aren't going to argue the facts shows they are overwhelming. Instead they are arguing standing which Trump supporters kept on criticizing regarding the election cases.

It was a good sign that at least one more Republican joined Democrats in allowing the trial to proceed but still looks nearly inevitable that Trump won't be convicted. That said this trial should still proceed and if it was me I would call witnesses and get as much evidence out there. The goals should be to put this on the Republican Senators who still vote to acquit that the only thing that matters to them is loyalty to Trump. I believe when years from now we will be looking upon people like Ted Cruz, Graham, Hawley and Ron Johnson like we do Strom Thurmond and other Senators who stubbornly defended Segregation.

One other thing that Trump's lawyers themselves stated. Private citizens are liable to criminal charges and I'm all for Trump being criminally charged and also facing civil suits for what happened not just on Jan. 6th but the whole leadup to it.
