Wasn't the purpose of signing Brantley that the Astros would only need Straw to be a Barker or a Hunter (maybe more bat, less defense?
Astros have 13 million to spend per Astros County Guessing he takes a 1yr deal and tries for a bigger contract once fans come back and teams spend more next winter.
McCullers gotta go if he dont like the BP. He would be a great Closer. But SP. Nah ill pass. I would trade him. And not resign him over 10m a year. He just hasn't proved he is that SP he claims to be
Let's hope it carries over to the Majors... we've all seen how the likes of Gerald Young, Eric Yelding, Brian Hunter, Willy T., et al have flamed out in the big leagues.
I agree with this take. At some point you just have to pick a team. Come to the Astros, bat 6 or 7 and get a million RBIs.
I always wonder why there isn’t more intentional swinging and missing on low strike 3’s but seriously so many guys just trot down to first after a pitch that gets behind the catcher . Put some damn pressure on him
If they were that good to recognize a potential wild pitch as its coming, and possibly ‘intentionally’ swing... why are they swinging?
I assume the rationale is that they have 2 strikes and the odds of getting on base are really low at that point. Though, it would have to be a really bad pitch at the point even then. Flipping through the worst pitches with 2 strikes excluding full counts, 2 outs and runner on third, a runner at 1st, batter trying not to get hit, and batter gets hit...I've found 2 pitches for Astros batters in 2019 and 2020 that may qualify for swinging with 2 strikes to try to get to first: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=d68f6eb7-609e-4b33-9d78-9496fe401f05 Great play by catcher. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=4918fb5e-066c-45f1-a24f-fd3e6d8e80e7 This one gets through! There were 3-4 plays that quite didn't get into dirt that ended up being easy plays that could have elicited intentional swings. Considering there is about a 23% chance of getting on base in these situations, it does not look like a good idea to intentionally swing with two strikes unless pitcher completely loses ball.
free base ? if they are good enough to recognize a ball is going to hit them why not always get out the way ?
For a Michael Bourne type of player, it probably would make sense, but pride and statistics make that a difficult choice. Plus, the ball bouncing back to the catcher as often as it does in many ballparks still makes it a risky attempt.
They would have to be perfect at judging 3 feet outside and in the dirt. Odds are there will be a lot of mistakes as hitters let middle middle fastballs go by on 2 striike counts a lot. Even if no mistakes, you're looking at 50% chance that catcher doesn't make a great play. Though odds are a Michael Bourne type sees a chance every 5-10 seasons. Having this as an idea in the head does not seem fruitful when you want hitters making split second decisions.
And in his first roughly 100 plate appearances in MLB he had an on base approaching .400 He was just so bad last year and that is what a large majority of people remember I am not saying he will be great, or even good....but I have no problem with them giving him a shot
So if we extended Correa during ST, say 6/180 just for arguments sake....would that be added to this years arb figure and averaged, thereby raising this years tax number?
