I don’t care who it is.....c’mon Stone get us a big man before we damage our .500 record. Tucker playing center and small ball was supposed to be a thing of the past. We don’t have 3-4 weeks to play without a legit backup center, unless the ultimate goal is to tank which doesn’t make sense with ten wins in the books.
What do you think our realistic expectations are for this season? If really high, what do you think our expectations are next 3 years?
There’s no question we need a young, athletic player at the 4 that can shoot, defend, and attack closeouts. Question is, who? Who’s out there that fits the present AND future plans? Only one I can think of is John Collins.
Stone should have kept Allen, Prince, and LaVert. We’ll be lucky to get a second rounder for Dipo. He needs to have one good game and then fake a minor injury so someone takes him on name value only. Rethinking my positive thoughts on Stone at this point. He HAD the perfect trade and then screwed the team royally by getting rid of three very good and needed players (to save money).
I hate 5out, it kills spacing. Unless it's Christian Wood who can play on the perimeter one possession and then be a roll man the next possession. Houston's smallball lineup has a dismal 105.0 defensive rating this year. They had the 3rd best offense in the league last season with Capela, but it plummeted to 16th once they went small. You need vertical spacing and a dump-off option once you drive and meet traffic. Houston needs a springy 5 asap. I don't care if he sucks defensively. Cousins looks awful out there at times in the pick n roll but we have a 103.0 defensive rating with him on the court, so clearly we have enough players around him to make it work defensively. I'm sure they could do the same with another big man even if he is limited defensively.
