I wasn't really thinking of the Astros because if we have 8 million to spend then we should have Pillar and another reliever on the roster already. I was thinking more like the Phillies, Blue Jays, or Angels.
I am assuming the budget is the tax line (even though the penalty is small) or we would have a closer. Having said that the Astros will need high end pitching with Verlander/Greinke/ McCullers all free agents. I believe Price has a good chance of being a #2 starter if given a chance.
My guess is Houston has <$5M left to spend this offseason since they want to leave some room for mid season traded. But $5M could still maybe buy them an upgrade in CF (Pillar, Benintendi, Gardner, Marisnick) or some rotation insurance (Porcello, etc.).
Not sure how I feel about Gardner in HOU... Will also be interesting to see if Correa extension talks ramp with the arbitration case settled. A reasonable Correa extension before ST finishes would be a huge win for this off-season. With the loaded SS market next offseason, an extension may make make most sense for both sides, especially if there’s a player opt-out around year 2 or 3. I have my fingers crossed for something around 6/170 with player opt out after 2. That would be v palatable (to me at least).
I like their depth at SP. Certainly could address it if need be at the trade deadline but they have Pruitt, Garcia, Abreu, Whitley, Bielak, etc who can start. Don’t really feel adding a SP is the same level of upgrade as adding Rosenthal or Bradley, Benintendi, Pillar, etc
Snake done post the news already but not the sexy insta pic; Steal Correas look: Retro Oilers shirt $60 on Depop Flannel jacket/shirt by JCrew $50 on JCREW.COM 30% off Off White Jordan 1s $1,3000 (Biden can pay for it) Joggers from lululemon $110 Looking this sexy, priceless.
So the A's are losing Davis and gaining Elvis Andrus and a 28 year old "prospect" catcher? Seems like the A's are getting worse. Andrus hasn't hit well since 2017. Davis hit 3 HRs in the playoffs last season. Weird trade.
I didn't miss that part. It's because Andruws has an extra year on his contract and a possible vesting option for a 3rd year while Davis will be a free agent after this season.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/as-re-sign-mike-fiers.html A's resign Fiers. PLEASE let him face the Astros this year. So they trades Davis to make a little room for Fiers. LOL
