it's not impossible, but it tends to be the kind of narrative thing that the media makes up after we know the results. winning: loose and carefree losing: not taking it seriously winning: making it so your teammates just have to catch and shoot losing: only letting your teammates catch and shoot so they can't get in a rhythm winning: passionate and competitive losing: whining and hurting morale
That's fair. And if a team is losing games, for whatever reason, there's a good chance that the team's spirit will be deflated regardless of what the leader of the team is doing. At the same time, I still think body language and overly complaining to refs would impact teammates. If on-court leadership is an actual thing, then wouldn't it follow that those things matter?
The complaining with referees is a mixed bag. I have seen guys constantly complain (Wade/Drexler/Kobe) and it not really impact anything. I have seen guys like Chris Paul whine and complain and it go both ways (although Foster screwed him in key playoff call). There is no disputing that arguing and not getting back is a problem. Although in the case of Doncic he may well have not gotten back anyway). My biggest issue is body language. It means nothing and it is interpreted for a narrative almost always. Scottie Pippen constantly dropped his heads and shoulders. Jordan and Payton would shake their heads when a teammate missed a shot. Magic Johnson had his shoulders down and would actively scream at his own teammates for mistakes or missed shots. Jordan used to lash out at innocent teammates when the team struggled. It is a stupid narrative. Judge them on their performance and not their body language.
Yeah he does whine a lot for an owner. However he also is a really good owner. He is heavily invested in his team. He defends his guys and he is always looking for ways to get better. Also what he did for Rodman and some other of his players was great.
At one point his whining was embarassing the players....... Dirk among others had to ask him to tone it down. Off the court help with the down and out players is to be commended, for sure. Bottom line overall results as a team owner don't equal a really good owner. He's loud and overrated, in my opinion.
Agreed about some of his behavior being a problem, but can't see how anyone can question him being a good owner. He was the first to spend on more trainers, coaches and facilities for his players. Add in the fact he's always been willing to spend into the luxury tax as well as his over the top support for his players publicly. Cuban is undoubtedly a loud mouth and far from perfect, but he's always been willing to put his money where his mouth is.
He has won a title in 20 years and took over a historically bad franchise. He isn’t perfect, his GM wanted Gianis and Cuban said no... but he is better than most.
luka being an awful shooter and not playing defense probably has more to do with the mavs losing than his whining.
I have always called him big nose Lowe. I call him that because his nose takes up half his face. He has a Buick parked over his top lip. He looks like the Little Caesar’s character
I was watching Harden tonight and damn does that guy whine a lot. I think he kind of brought that culture to Houston. PJ used to do it a lot. EGo has cut down on it, but could use a little more cutting back on that. I have no problem with complaining, but imagine the ref's perspective when you complain EGo! You're being demonstrative with the big actions... they're most likely going to retaliate. That's what people do when they're being defensive. I wish EGo would take a little Art of Complaining from John Wall. He seems like buddies with half the refs in the league.
