I read it. I understand it. I took it that you were critical for her for being too dramatic and attention grabbing about it basically which I don't agree with. She posted the video on instagram. It wasn't intended to get picked up the way that it did, and I found it to be pretty organic in her deliver of retelling the moment in an emotional way. AOC was targeted politically by a Republican who obviously had a paper trail that undercut her own attack of AOC, but she did it anyway to actually be the one who got the attention. I think your complaints about her attention grabbing really should be directed at the folks that just use her to grab attention and score political points themselves all because MAGA proud boys are obsessed with her.
As high profile as she is she knew it would get picked up like it did or she should have known. I also upon reflection realize my issue is more with how the media portrayed it more than her but I think she is not without fault. I don't think her going on instagram to retell her story was a great thing she had already told it in other places but I realize that's a thing now but when you do that you open yourself up to stuff like this. I understand that not all people see it like me but that's the way I see it. Maga people are not the only people obsessed by her as shown in this thread.
I am gonna say this on the record, I look at people like AOC and Pete as the future of the party and I will be critical of them when I see fit. I am not one for this hero worship. AOC is in a precarious position with her being so high profile at this early stage and some even within the party are gonna start looking at her side eye, that's just human nature. I love her energy and feistiness but IMO she can't be making herself the center of these types of stories especially when Pelosi has been going through worse **** for over 20 years and that goes for Bush as well, zi think she is milking it with moving her office. In the grand scheme of things this means nothing but at a certain point people will turn on you if you get oversaturated it's the price you pay for celebrity. So miss me with all this talk of me or "neo liberals" attacking progressives because this had nothing to do with her being a progressive or me being a "neo liberal" This is actually a problem I have with most of "The Squad" IMO they like the attention a little to much.
The right wing press is going to vilify any opposition any way they can think of. see: Willie Horton, Swiftboating, her emails.. yadayadayada We don't need to discuss everyone of them, they will be hyperbole, exaggeration, misinterpretation and some out right lies. The opposition is a minority, character assassination is all they have. See if they ever talk about doing something FOR the people they serve.
This twitter feud with the Republican congresswoman Mace is also not a good look she is 1st of all punching down and she is equating herself with rape victims who are afraid to speak out. Really AOC? Yes Mace is playing it up but don't take the bait. In response, Mace wrote on Twitter about half an hour later, “I have not once discounted your fear. We were ALL terrified that day. “I’m stating the fact that insurrectionists were never in our hallway,” the Republican continued, “because they weren’t. I deal in facts. Unlike you, apparently.”
I love me some AOC but I would like the rhetoric on twitter to stop, that goes for everyone. That was how Trump handled issues and I would like to think she can get over that. Maybe I am the "get off my lawn" guy and twitter only emboldens people and sooner or later your going to get called out.
I don't know if it's a matter of getting over it but I think both from AOC's standpoint and Rep. Mace and others this issue has become wrapped up in partisanship. Social media just magnifies that. If we look at the facts of the case AOC's life doesn't appear like it was directly in danger but I don't begrudge her feeling scared or traumatized by it. I don't think an political argument about it is is really helpful.
