Rockets are still taking "mindless" 3 pointers except the guys taking the most 3's are not nearly as efficient as James Harden.

 

28 thoughtful 3 pointers last night. Not a single one of those mindless ones.

 

/s i know but it's true! only house had a iso, dribble dribble dribble, "kobe!!!", while 4 guys stood around. we don't do that anymore and that makes the other 4 players "happy" as EGO has said many times this early season!

Rockets play a modern offense that emphasizes layups and wide open 3's.

Wide open 3's are NEVER mindless.

Team is still working on FTs which is the 3rd element of a modern offense.

Doesnt look that much different from how we generated our 3 pointers. The big difference is that Silas has 5 out spacing with Woods. i dont think we've ever had true 5 out spacing with a big here ever.

 

I think this is what some people may be reacting to, the roster is just better at shooting. After years of watching Terrance Jones, Josh Smith, Michael Carter-Williams, Pat Beverly, Russell Westbrook, and sometimes Harden himself struggle to stay above the Mendoza Line of +35% (on three or more attempts a game), this team just hit 53% while taking 52 three attempts in a game. It doesn't look mindless when they're taking open shots and knocking them down.

The Jazz are taking more 3's right now than our team did last season but they're knocking them down at nearly 39%. No one would call their offense mindless cuz they're not only taking the efficient shot they're knocking them down.

But the subjective adjectives like "mindless" or "thoughtless" are not even basketball terms but a Trumpian attempt to delegitimize a system and a philosophy that the Rockets are still committed to and achieving success with.

Silas from the very start said often, the offense will change very little.

He was more concerned with adjusting the defense and making it more hybrid.

Silas ended up embracing switch everything over drop coverage after witnessing the 2nd unit's success.

You dont need to fix what is not broken, rather Silas is tweaking it to make both defensive and offensive systems even more efficient.
