That was very common. Older, powerful and rich/famous men have been doing that for a long long time and it has been accepted in the entertainment field, as well as other particular fields.
It was a long time ago, I believe it was right when they were emerging when I saw Stabbing Westward. I have seen so many bands live, I just remember them being absolutely wretched live. Yes, Helmet was good live. We had never seen what they looked like when we went to see them and I remember them looking different than we expected but they were as good or better than expected. As for Reznor, I only know what my then girlfriend (now wife) and other girls at that time told me about him. I don't know if there was any physical violence. I remember them telling me that he was a narcissist and a womanizer and liar. I can ask her later.

If he was still putting out hits, no one would care. I don't see a point in beating up on an old has been especially when the allegations are well within the character he's been playing for almost 30 years now.....which means that he's been known as "that guy" since the woman who is throwing these "shocking" allegations at him was 7 years old. In short 1. Even if the allegations are true, they aren't shocking and 2. She was a consenting adult of legal age. A toxic relationship that you get into willingly is not sexual assault or abuse. Infantilizing legal aged, consenting adults simply because they are female is not a great look.
Glad to hear at least Helmet was good, and I'd be exactly the same as you - on what they looked like etc. That still sucks on stabbing Westward but thinking back their mainstream success didn't really last that long compared to other artists so it probably makes sense. Yeah, I figured Reznor would be a narcissist/liar/womanizer just hopefully not like this stuff coming out on Manson, I'm definitely curious. Obviously I'm not looking for role models here but at the same time not looking to support people directly abusing others like this. It'll be interesting on Reznor with the crossover to producing music for Disney now.
Yeah, not sure why this is a surprise to anyone. BTW, Reznor and Manson weren't 40 in the late 80s early 90s.
A few things: Just because this doesn't surprise many of us that remember him from the 90s doesn't make what he did any more okay. I haven't thought about Marilyn Manson in probably a decade or more. The notion that young women should have known MM is old man speak. At least one of the victims openly stated that she had no idea who he was when he first came on to her. The guy hasn't been relevant for a LONG time. Some of you calling this bad boyfriend behavior or sour grapes clearly didn't listen to Evan Rachel Woods videos posted previously. He threatened her life, her family's lives, tied her up, raped and tortured her. Other women in those posts mentioned he restrained and locked them up. None of that is "bad boyfriend" behavior. That's criminal behavior. She (Woods) also mentioned that she has audio and video evidence of this, not just he said/she said. If true, there should be no doubt of her. She did mention that it did no good legally because the statute of limitations is up on all these crimes. I vaguely remember a time when I sort of thought Stabbing Westward was okay, but never saw them live. We all have our dark periods when it comes to musical taste. Hell, I saw Creed live, once.
Funny tidbit ER Wood is friends with Amber Heard. Brian Warner or MM is a good friend of John C. Depp. Allegations not the same as substantiation. I just watched 'promising young woman'.
