But Im not saying Rox a prime destination lol. Yeah Miami more a prime destination than Houston but they both arent prime destinations. The only time you heard Miami is a prime dest is when they made the Finals and thats when you got rumors of recruiting Giannis etc. Prior to that you didnt really hear Miami's name as a prime dest. Case in point okd being traded to Minny and Philly first before sign and trade with Miami. Rox are the same if the team is competitive and have a good vibe within next 2 years they can recruit someone good when Wall's contract is done. Dipo would help keeping the team good in the meantime they can be top 3-6 in the West in the next 2 years with our cast.
You are not using it right. Gordon and Wall are not unrecoverable costs. They can be traded. A sunk cost in the NBA world would be money spent on a buyout. The player and the money are gone and you can't recover that buyout money. Gordon and Wall are future commitments that have not been paid and are very much relevant. I know their cap space situation but Jimmy isn't getting any younger. Maybe they can convince Dipo to sign with them but maybe not. You just said he's one of the top FAs so maybe someone way over pays him and they miss out. It's much easier to retain a player that is on your roster and you get a chance to contend this year. The Nets gelling is a big if. Their defense is horrendous. A Miami team with Dipo could beat them. But this is just a hypo trade for a team that is in a tough spot and could use Dipo. As the season progresses desperate teams will likely pop up.
I like EGo, but there's no way he provides the same production. Vic gives you 5 boards and 5 assists - Gordon gives you 2 and 2. Oladipo also historically gets steals at a much higher rate. Gordon gives you shooting and scoring, but he doesn't create for others. Gordon's a good one-on-one defender, but Oladipo is better overall defensively. And, 4 years younger. He's worth more than Gordon by any measure.
Gordon can't do everything Dipo does. You act as if 20/5/5 is easy. Gordon hasn't touched that volume in any of those stat categories in almost ten years.
you the type that digs in... waits for something bad to happen and then say "see i told yall i was right!" uh?
You are wrong, sunk costs are unrecoverable costs that concern a specific decision, it doesn't mean unrecoverable costs period. Sunk costs only matter in the scope of a certain decision and not in general that's why its used in decision making as opposed to Prospective Costs which would be costs you incur if you undertake a certain decision. A lot of the costs seen as sunk cost are in general recoverable. Even buying out the contract you can make that up in ticket sales or a longer playoff run, you still made profit in the end so you recovered that buy out cost. The specific decision here is keeping Dipo. Whether you keep or trade Dipo EG and Wall remain on your roster therefore they are sunk costs and shouldn't impact your decision on keeping or trading Dipo. Maybe you can do something later that will remove these contracts from the books. Or it may not be possible we don't really know. That is outside the scope of the decision to trade or keep Dipo already though so for the purpose of trading or keeping Dipo Wall and EG's salary are sunk costs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost Dipo is an unrestricted free agent all the teams in the league will be able to offer him the same max amount of money. If someone way overpays him he is going to that team regardless which team he is coming from. Jimmy B is not getting any younger but half of a season won't age him greatly so if the price of that half a season is Tyler Herro I'm confident Heat will just wait in the offseason.
The specific decision has to factor in what contracts you currently have. Every team in the league factors in current contracts because it directly affects your ability now and in the future to make moves. Current salaries are not a sunk cost. If you are paying Shaq and Duncan max salaries you probably wouldn't want to give David Robinson a max salary too even he wanted to be there and come off the bench. But if you are paying Shaq and Duncan the minimum you would be much more ok with Robinson making the max because you have money to blow. No team in the league makes decisions ignoring current salaries because they aren't sunk costs that should be ignored when making decisions. Miami is going to have to pay Robinson a decent amount of money. Getting Dipo's bird rights makes signing him much easier. Plus Dipo might be willing to take less in Miami if they contended. Getting the player on your team is an advantage.
Those numbers are with Oladipo being a starter I agree he is better playmaker but I have seen nothing to say he is a better defender than Gordon, what he did to Mitchell is still amazing. I agree him being younger factors into things but I think Gordon is actually overpaid with his age and on this team I don't see Oladipo bringing more value. This is my opinion you are free to yours.
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. I have not dug in on anything, why are you trying to deflect?
I agree with that I'm just saying in terms of trading or keeping Dipo Wall and EG are sunk costs. That's not what sunk costs are man. I already gave you the definition you still confused. Look it up on youtube. The whole point of having a sunk cost is you ignore it wtf. If you need to take that it into account in a decision then thats not a sunk cost that's a prospective cost. Dipo is an unrestricted free agent if they pay what he wants and convince him he is going there period. Sure getting a player on your team early is an advantage but compared to losing a talent like Herro how much is that advantage worth? You're arguing half a season of Dipo is worth losing Herro? What if the Rockets traded Tate, Nwaba and Brown for a half a season of Dipo you ok with that?
The only thing he can't do is the assist numbers and oladipo has played more minutes than him over the last 3 season. He just averaged 18 ppg 2 years ago and he did it on less shots, Oladipo has always attempted more shots than Gordon. I never said 20/5/5 is easy I just don't think those numbers are worth the max and not something to build a team around.
I'm not confused. You are saying EG and Wall are sunk costs and should be ignored when factoring in trading or bringing back Dipo right.? I'm saying that's not true. The contracts of EG and Wall factor into the decision to keep or trade Dipo. And every team in the league factors in other contracts when signing other players. The Rockets just possibly traded Levert and a second for a season of Dipo. We already have an idea of his value.
