as compared to you shaking your fist and screaming "he signed the deal 4 months ago"

You have those Battle Red Blinders on extra tight.

Current veterans players even told him to go leave the team while he can.

    Says a lot.

No. I explained how Watson 4 months ago valued maximizing his earnings potential over principles. That's fine. But he can't have both.

The front office is about to lose the whole damn locker room.

Is the whole team against it on the principles?

"respected veterans on the teams have, in effect, told Watson, Go ahead. Go. We love you. We don’t want you to get trapped here. You don’t owe us anything.

I’ve heard a few other things about Watson. The veterans on the team supported him going to owner Cal McNair a month ago and telling him the situation in the locker room was dire, and there was no faith in the management or direction of the team. When the team didn’t interview a Watson favorite, Robert Saleh, that turned off the locker room. When the team chose to keep EVP Jack Easterby (a major bone of contention with players, who do not trust him), that further soured the players, including Watson."

    You are entitled, bud.

Watson did not expect to choose the GM AT ALL.

" He did not expect Houston to hire those he endorsed, but Watson was hoping the Texans would respect the feelings of the group of teammates he was trying to represent, sources told ESPN.

The Texans, however, did not act on their quarterback's thoughts and charged ahead with a hire that mattered to a much smaller circle than the one Watson was trying to aid, sources told ESPN.

Even if the Texans didn't want to move forward with any of Watson's recommended candidates, sources told ESPN that Watson wanted to at least have the opportunity to meet with ownership's finalists so he could offer thoughts from a player standpoint to benefit the team -- and then the Texans could hire who they wanted. That opportunity never came.
    "

Neither side has confirmed that Cal promised he would be involved. Watson never has mentioned it. Only gossip reporters have.

Nothing here contradicted my statement that 4 months ago Watson valued maximizing his earnings over principles. Any competent human would have the basic foresight of **** hitting the fan 4 months ago especially someone who is actually in the organization and personally knows Easterby and Cal's relationship. He wants his cake and eat it too. He wants to maximize earning potentials and "take a stand against bad culture and management" when that bad culture and and management was self-evident well over 4 months ago.

I mean this dude signed an extension AFTER they traded Hokpins and don't even get d first round pick back. That should of been his call to not ****ing resign. But nope, maximize earnings.

Absolutely he wants his cake and to eat it too. He has the power and clout to make that happen and he's using it instead of accepting less because some fans are unhappy. Good for him - that makes him awesome.

Edit: of course, you're also completely making up the idea that "every competent human" should have known Easterby's corrosive influence 4 months ago. I don't recall you complaining about Easterby 4 months ago, so what would that say about you? Clearly, very few on this message board saw it either. Maybe BoB was a filter and until recently, people didn't see just how bad Easterby's role was. It's how it played out for everyone else, certainly.

If Watson was genuine in his praise and support of BOB, then there was a *significant* change.

Deshaun signing "only" a 3 year extension says alot too - people are overlooking that also. He probably saw plenty of BS going on, but what is he to do - NOT sign the extension? Create more turmoil - go into the "franchise" designations?

He signed a 3 year extension. LOL.

this...teams do things in their best interest and it’s cool, but when a player does it, a contingent of people will start b*tching and crying like the athlete owes them sh*t

I bet if a good player was trying to force their way to Houston, all that energy would be different

The two latest articles to come out are from very reputable journalists.

He did maximise his value, and signed a contract. Texans just decided to become a MUCH LARGER dumpster fire since then.

Can anyone believe ANYTHING that comes from the Houston Texans right now? They are consistently contradicting themselves with every comment and decision they make.

It's amusing that, to some fans, the preferred/ethical scenario would have been Watson NOT signing an extension. Somehow, it would then have been OK if Watson asked for a trade now, despite it just meaning the Texans would get less in return since he's not signed long-term.

    Seriously!

Imagine that headline "Watson DECLINES record extension!!!"

Fans up in arms "Why Deshaun Why" and if he was being honest he would throw everyone under the bus, but he's remained as professional as possible and is getting villainized for using the only means to an end for most professional athletes.

I'm sure he didn't want this front office to go full r****d, but hey it happened.

If the Houston media wants Easterby gone, then they should at least investigate the rumors of him having players followed, calling moms, etc. If these are true, the NFL would be forced to act, either by getting Easterby fired or forcing Cal out. If I was a Texans player that was a victim of these tactics, I would sue the Texans and NFL for creating a hostile work environment based on religious bias. The NFL in all it’s BLM hypocrisy is still operating in a biased environment.

I am a proponent of the constitution, including freedom of the press, individual rights, and religious freedom. The NFL is practicing none of the above and is protected from monopoly litigation. They are above all interested in maintaining their monopoly and public image. This Watson situation is challenging all of that. If the media does not call Cal and Easterby out on this, then they are complicit.

Im surprised the media is being so docile actually. I'd like to ask Cal how he feels about placing so much responsibility and confidence in a man who has lied on resumes in order to secure work. Seems not long ago that there were coaches who were fired for that exact thing.

Cal is avoiding the media, he didn't go to the press conference to announce Culley. He is being a coward.
