Necessary thread for all the PJ haters. Watch the games, not the box score. PJ could average 2 points on 0-5 shooting the rest of the season, I wouldn’t care. He’s still deserving of 30+ minutes and a starting spot. Also, as smart as it would be to flip a 35 year old for a FRP, we need him for this playoff push. PAY THE MAN.
Im okay with either. I love Tuck, but I also want him to do what's best for his career. Whatever he thinks is best.
IB4 we should never extend PJ because what do u expect his teammates to say and not extending him is simply a business decision
I must admit, I am one of the fans who want him traded. Only because I think we need a taller presence next to Wood. However, what PJ bring is invaluable but he needs to more of a role player at this point, not a starter 2yrs/$13m- $16m
If all of what is said here by the players is true, what is the explanation for our defense being its worst while Tucker is on the floor? 112.8 defensive rating with PJ on the floor. Some other numbers to consider. Tate ON Tucker OFF(~180 minutes) Team Offensive Rating : 110.5 Team Defensive Rating : 88.4 Net : +22.1 That right there is pretty damning on who has been more effective at helping the team build leads. We are an awesome defense and the guy with the best reputation for defense has been our weakest link. It’s nice for teammates to be PC and say the right things, but I guarantee the front office is noticing some bad signs. Prior to the season I was onboard with a modest extension, but this drop off has been steep I didn’t expect it for another year maybe 2. I have no doubt his locker room presence is invaluable because of his attitude and work ethic but the on court results have fallen off a cliff.
The market for what PJ Tucker brings to the table (leadership, defense, dirty work) is not as highly valued by the league as is scoring. So it would therefore stand to reason that you can more easily find a PJ Tucker replacement than you can a 20ppg scorer replacement. With that thesis, the business decision would be to NOT pay an aging PJ Tucker when you can simply replace that skill set for less money... We also must accept that with age, Tucker's skills will decline, and you don't want to be shelling out the big bucks during that phase. We love you PJ, but it's a ruthless business.
Bravo - bringing the data! These are hard truths, and we need to zoom out to be able to see it. Players on the court will struggle with this, but it's the data presenting a compelling argument.
Hmm. Curious case here. Why do 3 of our top 4 players suddenly feel the need to praise PJ Tucker? Are they hearing trade rumors behind the scenes? The John Wall comment was said to be unsolicited. I wonder about the Dipo and Gordon ones. That would seem to be a little more than a coincidence if so.
And I love PJ. He has left it all on the court and battled from the moment he got here, but if you can get assets for him at his age and with his contract situation, you just have to trade him. Also gives him a chance to compete at a high level in the playoffs on one of these contenders and that would also be doing right by him.
Okay, but if that's true, are you mad at James Harden? If you are fine. That's your right. But I dont like this type of talk. And I know he doesnt look great in this system. But I would pay him for all that he's done here. And I dont really care about losing out on mediocre money when we arent going to be contending for awhile either. Its only okay when fans say "its just business," I really dont like the "its just business" lingo, I really dont.
Agreed, I’ve noticed that as well. Think Tuck may be getting his act together since Harden trade. If the Rockets can trade Harden for practically nothing.........Tucker may be thinking ohhh crap!! “Maybe I’m overplaying my hand?” “They might send me to Minnesota or Sacramento!!” Texas has no state tax for Pete’s sake. Get $2M more elsewhere but lose it in taxes in say New York or Brooklyn. WhahWhah cry me a river. People are starving and he is crying about only getting $8M this season. Love Tucker but I’m not sure 5.3 pts, 4.6 rebs, and a PER of 6.8 is worth more than $8M this year. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/tuckepj01.html
TANK lol Trade him... he deserves the chance and probably the money. Both of those things are likely elsewhere. Shake hands. Rebuild. TANK===(0
