Can play the late inning replacement game. Move Tucker to LF and put Straw in CF after Brantley gets his last AB.
I do not want to invest in any kind of multi-year deal for him going forward He's just not built to give you more than 120-150 IP max Just getting thru 5 consistently has always been a struggle Scouts always had him pegged as a future reliever going back to HS, and his 2-pitch heater+hook repertoire is custom made for it Since this is his walk year ... And with the emergence of Framber / Javier / Urquidy as some quality rotation depth ... And since we missed out on all of the top tier of FA closers ... Maybe it's time to move him to the pen, whether he wants to or not? We all have seen how dominant he can be coming out for short stints in the playoffs when he can let it fly I'd rather get 75 innings of that spread out over 50 games than 150 over 25 starts Maybe by AUG he can become the lights out closer this team desperately needs in front of Pressly I do wonder if the strain on the arm would possibly be worse getting up 2-3 times a week instead of being able to plan ahead for a regular turn once a week
This all but guarantees Story signs elsewhere I would assume...also, Click, please get on the phone and bring German Marquez and his curveball on a fork to Strommy
Not Not a bad flyer to take. Its been almost two years since the devastating leg injury (ACL, LCL and all the other CLs). He was very good in 2017, then basically injured for 3 years. But he is still only 31 - maybe he’s recovered. If so, great OF rotation insurance. If not, minimal risk. P.S. Houston is officially the ACL rehab HQ
Minor league deal so I’m totally ok with it. He’s a projected league average bat with some upside; not the quality of player we were hoping for but a great 8 or 9 hole hitter on this team. Click is familiar with him from 2015-2017. He’s basically Reddick. Maybe they think Tucker can handle CF. Lineup might be set now: 3B Bregman LF Brantley 2B Altuve DH Alvarez SS Correa CF/RF Tucker 1B Gurriel C Maldonado/Castro RF/CF Souza/Straw Bench: Diaz, Toro
Darn...Astros should have traded them Straw, Garcia and Hinojosa. Moved Bregman to short and Correa to CF. C'mon Click, pull your head out.
Rockies have some good pieces they should trade. Any of their 4 SP would help Houston, especially Gray or Marquez.
If I’m Click I’m on the phone with the Rockies right now asking about any and everyone. They might eat a chunk of Charlie Blackmon’s salary, I’d ask about Tapia, Gray, and Marquez
Marquez is gonna be an all star when he gets out of Denver, and he's on a really good contract. I imagine the competition to get him would be fierce. None of their other pitchers particularly interest me, at least not enough to give up much.
Carlos Rodon is staying with the White Sox for 3 million guaranteed. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/01/white-sox-to-sign-carlos-rodon.html
Glad to see the Phillies sign Gregorious for 2 years. Hopefully that takes them out of the SS market next offseason if Correa tests free agency.
Fwiw Souza projects to be as good of a hitter as Yuli Gurriel. And one of the reporters made a Twitter comment that Souza can “handle all 3 OF positions”. In an ultimate upside scenario where Souza rebounds nearly to his 2017 form and gets 600 pa (mostly in CF), he’d be a star player (to the tune of ~4 fWAR).
If it was a major league deal that required moving someone off the 40 man I would be angry. He's basically a free gamble on a minor league deal. It's not like we have a ton of MLB ready outfielders he is blocking in spring training.
IIRC quite a few here including me wanted to draft Carlos Rodón back in the day. I guess that he was not as cant-miss as people were saying.
