Nope, Silas didn't sign up for this, it is not longer necessary to tank to win.

Silas has everything to worry about. Teams that tank always assure their coaches will be safe...then they fire them anyway...and of course when it comes time to get a new job their resume is ruined by a tanking team.

Anyway, you can forget it, they literally hired Silas to be a culture-building coach and you don't build culture throwing games. Like we have people that have constantly said with sources that the Rockets are not tanking. Their moves basically say that.

They simply are not tanking. All of these guys, including the coach, have something to prove.

If Silas, management and ownership are on board, than everything should be fine.

Yea, probably not. Its unfortunate though, this isnt the smart play. This is spinning the wheels. It gets us no closer to the chip.

Im not sure what the Rockets are doing. The Harden deal is a head scratcher if they arent tanking but they are surely trying to win and these past few games were perfect opportunities to drop games. I just dont understand not taking win now players (like Simmons for example) in a harden deal unless you were committed to the rebuild. Does anyone really believe that Stone is going to spend what it will take to bring Oladipo back at the end of this year? Is he really going to invest more capspace into a guard with injury concerns? And if he doesnt, what was the point of winning these meaningless games the past week?

You, as a coach, cannot keep your job if you lose the confidence of your players.

You cannot keep the confidence of your players by losing games.

We ALWAYS see this, the coach through a tanking regime never survives through it because of this simple math.

The idea that a coach, a new one at that, can keep his job through years of tanking is way out there, it simply doesn't happen.

Some of you are just bound and determined to believe that people are advocating the Rockets intentionally lose by telling their players to go out and toss games. That isnt how any of this works.

And nobody said years. This season has 4 months left in it.

    Man, I am though...

@HP3 LITERALLY said Silas should lose on purpose...

HE ALSO said he's fine with waiting years...so yeah, I am arguing with someone that wants the coach to intentionally throw games and is fine with tanking for years.

Maybe you haven't, but he has said so.

Dallas coach didnt, did Kerr? Did Pop? Did Spolstera who had a bad season after Lebron? If you have good organizations who trust their coaches and do things the smart way(like tinkering with lineups, not telling their players to lose) you will be fine. There are coaches that do.

Thats not what I said though. I didnt Silas should tell the players to lose. You just tinker with bad lineups, its literally what Carlisle did to get Luka.

It wont be LONG IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. If you have good management it should take 2-3 years.

    1) We just lost our superstar for draft picks and a large expiring, but somewhat tantalizing contract.

    2) We are top 4 protected this year and totally protected for the next two consecutive seasons

    3) Our owner might as well be an airline owner because his industry is going to be tough for next year(s) coincidentally.

Perfect time to bottom out for 3 seasons, collecting assets while being predatory/ready for the next Harden type situation. Right now Wood is essentially our blue chip prospect that is on a cheap, long term contract.

Rockets already have 4 lottery picks on current team.

Picks are no guarantee of winning, no matter how high.

I'd rather trade those FRP for young players already in NBA and playing in ill fitting systems.

What evidence is there that kerr, spo, pop or carlisle deliberately play bad lineups to lose?

The warriors were terrible last year because they were a terrible team due to injuries. Klay acl curry broken hand The heat werent good after LeBron because wade and bosh suffered injuries and declined. Yet they still were far from purposely losing. They played their best players like dragic wade bosh etc the most minutes and finished 37-45. Carlisle and the mavs were terrible because their roster sucked. Even then they didn't finish in the bottom 4.

Furthermore these were all established and highly respected coaches.

Teams tank by having bad rosters. By purposely drafting, signing and playing young players like philly or ny or cleveland did. They tank by not rushing back their injured stars when half the season or more is over like the warriors did with curry, San Antonio with drobinson. Never have I heard of a team with a good roster and record tank by merely playing bad lineups or instructing their players or coaches to lose.

All of these examples are coaches that literally won championships. Silas, no rings, will have no such leash and no respect given to him by players.

It's hard to get players to listen to you when you're losing games, even Pop couldn't survive 3-4 losing seasons, the narrative would be "He's lost it, too old for this game now"

And even so you're talking about potential YEARS of tanking. 0 chance Silas survives that, no matter what Tilman tells him.

Being top 4 protected is the BIGGEST reason we shouldn't tank this year.

There is an around 50/50 chance we do not even get that pick after all. This is about the worst year, (if any, I do not think tanking is viable anymore) to do it for this franchise.

That's not the point, the point is they had god AWFUL teams and kept their jobs. And it is well known that the Mavericks tanked that year to get Luka. https://www.nba.com/news/dallas-mavericks-owner-mark-cuban-fined-comments-tanking This is what happens when good ownership steps in and is on board.

Sure they were all respected coaches to your point. But like im saying if ownership, management are all in on this, Silas wont be fired. If this is cooperative, things will be fine. You just trade a few players, tinker with the lineups.

I have never once, not once said for Silas to give the players instructions to lose. What do you mean play bad lineups? That happens all the time. I remember even reading on reddit about how Dallas fans would say that Carlise would intentionally play bad lineups or young guys more to encourage the tank.

What, the Spurs are going nowhere. If anything, they should tank. They are going nowhere.

2 years. That's what Im talking about. We will have to tank eventually. Why not now? If you get it right, you wont have to tank. You are actling like Im talking about tanking for a decade. This is so ludacris bro.

This is fear talking. Silas has already proven enough right now. If the Rockets are serious about winning, there should be no problem. Silas will not lose the locker room if this is done in a smart way.

The problem is you can't promise it for 'Only 2 years' it's a empty promise.

You can talk all yuo want about Cade and you can draft him and then he's a bust. You can then talk about whoever is the #1 guy in the next draft, draft him, and he can also be a bust.

You keep saying "This is ludacris!" yet ignore all the teams that have been tanking for years and years and never get it right. You act like it's easy to tell who is going to be a superstar and it isn't.

Your way is a way of empty promises, a get rich quick scheme, that's all it is, moreso with the new lottery odds.

Also, @HP3 why did you even like this post? It's apparently crazy to be anti-tank...

While people are telling you there's risk involved... you're selling it as this "Just suck for two years, get your star, EZ!"

If it were that easy no team would suck for more than 3 years.
