Adam Schefter, the best NFL reporter in the industry, reported that the Texans were on the verge of hiring Omar Khan, and that Khan and Louis Riddick were the two finalists for the Texans’ GM position before McNair went off script and hired Caserio after speaking with Easterby. Whether he told Watson he was doing so or not is irrelevant. Even if he had, there would be serious trust issues between Watson and McNair. If Caserio had been interviewed in the process and was one of the finalists, that would be one thing, but Caserio had not been interviewed during the process at all. It’s completely understandable why Watson would be upset by that. Also, nothing I shared in the post you just quoted was speculation. Deshaun Watson made his culture change comments on Jan. 4. He made his comments about wanting the team to re-sign Will Fuller on Dec. 3. The Texans officially hired Caserio on Jan. 7. On Jan. 12, they officially requested an interview with Eric Bieniemy. They never requested an interview with Robert Saleh.
But you're assuming this is about performance and results instead of more visceral issues like trust. Again, this goes beyond Watson. With all these other terrible franchises and managements, where do you see any player say something like Andre Johnson did? There is a huge disconnect here that goes beyond "oh they hired a good guy in the end". When you're given an opportunity to secure life-changing money and know you still retain leverage over your future, you do it. His job is to look out for himself, his family, and his future - not for the best interests of the fans. LOL. He's not the one being a baby. Even if we say he made a mistake not addressing this 1-2 years ago, so what? He still has an opportunity to protect his own future now - he's taking it. Again, not being a baby.
Bernie Sanders would not approve of management trying to strongarm labor - especially just out of spite.
AJ said "waste another player's career"... Like the Texans have been a dumpster fire. They had horrible years, and good years... no conference championship games or SB appearances, but lots of other players have been stuck in worse situations. I don't care if he does it. I'm just pointing it out. Nobody should be like "DW is right!!" He's not right. He screwed the franchise by not speaking up sooner. If we keep using the word trust, then in a similar manner, DW's trust should be worthless. When asked MANY MANY MANY times by reporters how he felt about Bill O'brien, he either outright lied, or is an idiot. Just facts. That's all I'm pointing out.
I don’t disagree with you on this. It’s going to be a challenge for any team trading for Watson to consistently put a good team around him starting in 2022 when his contract extension really becomes prohibitive towards roster construction. Next year, his cap hit is only $15.9 million. It jumps to $40.4 million for the 2022 season. That said, I don’t think Watson’s contract extension is going to stop a team looking for a franchise QB from making a huge offer.
