Length of the extension even had all the signs that pointed to this moment. 3 years? For a franchise, generational type QB? He's seen enough and couldnt even get past year 1 LOL
This is correct, however, I don't think for one second that you or I or anyone else on this BBS wouldn't have signed that extension. This is life in the NFL. You take what you can get when you can get it.
Let's stipulate up front that we don't actually know what Watson wants. Just the rumors are that he prefers Dolphins and Jets. -Both owned by HUGE MAGA guys -Both have been incompetent franchises for decades -Both play in better cities -Both were better LAST year but basically none of the years before that -One team has a coach that maybe he likes though is not one of the two coaches he publicly has praised.
It's not that many people wouldn't sign the extention. It's more like most people here would probably not quit on the contract just after.... One season.
Maybe his hope was that the team would hire the most competent and worthy GM/Coach and was told he would be involved in that process only to be lied to and then made to feel unimportant to the team? This is the result. No more trust and now the player wants out. When he signed the deal there was still some slither of hope, but all that is gone now. As is Watson.
Missing game checks, missing years of your prime... in a league where careers are shortened to begin with. NFL players are within their rights to do anything... they just don’t have as much longevity or power as players do in other leagues. In some cases the entire league can blackball you....
I dont care about the political connotations - its irrelevant since the what it appears to me is that the trust has been broken by everyone involved in relation to Watson. Texans were a MAGA haven when he was drafted. Obviously he could work through that issue and even deal with it at whatever stop is next in his career. Being lied to by a superior and made to feel unimportant when you are probably the MOST important piece to the puzzle is poor management plain and simple. GOOD companies go to whatever length to keep their star workers, but the Texans value something else other than excelling at your job - they seem to be demanding complete fealty and that fake Christianity combined with the lies may be too much for WATSONS own moral compass.
Can’t talk principles about Watson without talking principles of the ownership. Those guys make 530mill in revenue annually which is more than double their player salary expense. But they can’t get their **** together. If they can’t organize themselves then, why would you stay and expect something different to happen? insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. it didn’t matter who, his market was $40mil as a top 5 QB in the league.
I don't know if their Christianity is fake, but yeah, they are a poorly managed franchise. So are the other two he wants to go to historically.
Let’s not act like the Texans had an opportunity to sign a HC after having all season to do so, same for the GM position. let’s not act like the Texans had an offer for Omer Khan but then last minute went to get Casiero.
Imagine if the Texans trade deshaun to the Dolphins and the Dolphins trade the first round pick they got for tunsil.
I think the ease his agent had with getting Ramsey out of Jacksonville played a role as well. Of course the Rams are not closer to winning it all than the Jaguars or Texans at this point.
I can't confirm that Cal did lie because he says something different than what media has reported and Watson hasn't said anything publicly. That said, literally every human being lies.
