I don't blame him for wanting out. Why do the owners have to be so bad? It's good that the speculation is over, even if it's bad news.
Odd timing then that the “official” request comes the morning after the hire. I feel numb right now. I can’t believe cal chose Easterby over Deshaun. Everyone hates Tilman but cal is the worst owner in town.
Armchair psychology? If his top choices are crap teams but with big markets, that's going to be the rational assumption. Him dissing Houstonains because he wants to go to a bigger market with more of a spotlight doesn't make his entire existence a bad human. He's just wrong on this issue.
No, the Texans need to work with the league office and see their position on this. This issue goes beyond the Texans, and the reality is that the Texans do not want Watson as their QB if he doesn't want to be there. No one is going to want to play for an organization forcing Watson to stay, and no one is going to want to play for a QB that really doesn't want to be there. The NBA started all of this crap.
Would you sign an extension to work there? The same dumb logic is being applied there as well “extensions don’t matter! He can do whatever he wants!”
Schefter said the Texans have had the official request for weeks. It got leaked today is all. Apparently the coaching candidates were all aware that an official trade request had been made. Watson has been unwilling to speak with Caserio since he was hired. The twitter rumors that were started by podcast guy were false. Watson had no part of the HC interviews, they were never working on a contract with EB, Watson didn't want them to hire EB to stay, etc.
Crazy huh? That Watson thinks he can turn around the Jets before the Texans, but yet go play for an equally insensitive owner!! Cal had ONE JOB and he blew it. LOL.
Agreed... but the NFL infinitesimally more powerful than the NBA and the players have the least power in this league compared to any other sport. does a situation like this further empower players? Or does it further tighten the owners resolve to gain more power over them?
Well, that’s the problem then. Signing contracts do have repercussions... whether you’re happy or not.
Watson may have wanted BoB to remain a coach, but did Watson vouch for BoB to become the GM and/or fire Gaine? Didn't think so.
What exactly is the "repercussion"? People are acting like Deshaun isn't within his rights to do what he's doing... and he absolutely is. Cal and Easterby are within their rights too. The problem is they're flaming dumbasses who are wrong about almost everything.
