Agreed. The only thing I will add is that his tenure as the Bears head coach was a very long time ago.

Basically this. A bunch of guys that had success years ago but not recently.

I don’t think we will see a lot of innovation but we will likely see structure.

Problem is this reminds me of John Fox and his staffs. Yeah the guys show up on time and are disciplined but they are 25 years behind the coaches on the other side of the field.

This dude literally has only like 5 complete sentences on his wikipedia page. As if it was hastily made, oh, I don't know...an hour ago, since the hiring?

But yes, let's be optimistic, I guess.

Seems like a well respected black coach in the NFL that was passed over for years because he was black is now being rewarded with an opportunity to prove his worth as a man and a coach no matter his color. Now all the people that were clamoring for men like him to have a chance have now found not one but two ways to discriminate against him. Not only is he old , he is a devout Christian, therefore he doesn’t fit their idea of a head coach.

Well there's either a league-wide conspiracy against hiring minorities and old people and Christians or, Occam's razor, this guy's just an average position coach who no one would hire for HC except a team stupid enough to let Jack Easterby run it.

    Searching for silver lining....

If we don't get an experienced NFL head coach, does it make more sense to get one with 20+ years in the NFL, or one of the "innovative" young guys with 10 years of coaching in HS, College, and maybe a sniff in the NFL?

Seems very respected among his peers. Has a rapport with Deshaun. I'll ignore skin color and church preference...is it possible this is a good hire?

Flip side is 20+years in the NFL but no coordinator or HC jobs. But is that really his fault? I don't know that I've ever seen his name in other interviews but admittedly only pay attention to Houston.

Is it a good hire, or just "good enough" hire?

Reserve judgement until Deshaun responds. I want to know if Deshaun has any input on the coach. Or the new coach ever talked to Deshaun this past week. Listened to radio during lunch today saying it was between Frazier and Culley, I knew it was Culley because he was on no one's radar and just popped up. I wonder if the Texans don't want to spend money on a coach is the reason for Culley.

Given that he wasn't given OC or DC opportunities either - something black men have not had a huge amount of trouble getting - there might be something beyond his skin color that was preventing him from moving up in organizations. Andy Reid had him as a WR assistant for like 17 years and never once thought "let me make him an offensive coordinator".

There's been a league wide conspiracy against hiring minority head coaches for about 75 years.

This reminds me of the 49ers hiring Jim Tomsula a handful of years. I really hope I am wrong.
