It is ok when mayors create rebelious safe havens for illegals but it isn't ok for Ice to do its intended purpose and protect us.

It is ok when we do it right?

This is all about lack of credibility, corruption, cruelty and blind loyalty to a demagogue. Biden is saying 'TIME OUT' so they can assess.

You would have a point but thats not how safe havens work.

The safe havens just don't report to the federal gov't from a local level, this is a federal agency disregarding a direct order.

Example A of how the American right has become radicalized into Extremist groups who resort to terrorism. You have completely lost it, and now sound like my crazy Uncle when before you were much more measured even if you were obviously a hack.

When you legitimately start believing your own lies from the propaganda you fester in, you become more and more desperate to take ANY measures. You literally now are saying the the Democrats want to destroy the country. If you legitimately believe that then it would make sense that violence is necessary.

Do you have any idea that you are an extremist and a risk to being involved in political terrorism?? Because you are saying it pretty loudly even if you want to think in your mind that you are a good person.

    ..........

    Onto the issue:

Illegal immigrants cannot vote. That's just a fact that blows up your argument on its face, and makes it nonsense. They can however, be contributing to our economy and paying taxes if they are going to be here anyways one way or another, and can be better tracked. Your Trump ICE way of striking fear with separating them from their children, and throwing them in private prisons while they wait for deportation just sends immigrants underground. Most "illegal" immigrants are here because they overstay their visas. Sometimes it's almost unavoidable. If someone is here illegally there needs to be a process to easily tracking, and removing the fear of good faith compliance.

The Biden admin just has a different way of approaching immigration, and he has an immigration bill going to Congress that has BIPARTISAN support. That's not Socialism-Communism-Tyranny.... that's Democracy, and a more productive way of dealing with immigration both legally and illegally.

You are preaching extremism, and I fully reject your dribble here trying to radicalize more posters here in our community.

I am extremely familiar with ICE.

I had to work with them as a federal prosecutor.

They are horrible, they often do not follow basic laws.

Regardless, I agree with your point that local officials were violating ICE directives when Trump was President, so it shouldn't be a shock that now some local officials are violating directives on the same issue under President Biden.

The issue though is State officials vs Federal officials who report directly to the Executive Branch. It makes sense a mayor or governor would challenge a federal order. It's actually a good thing for our Democracy that they have the power to do so.

The issue in this case though is this is an agency that reports directly to Joe Biden. If there is an illegal order that comes out of the Executive Branch to another Executive Branch department, then they have the ability to file a complaint to the inspector general, DOJ, Congress, or the media if necessary. They do not have the ability to serve a shadow president's agenda after they have left office.

There's a big difference here in the way ICE will be trying to play out it's agenda over the next few months, and I think this is a pretty clear indication of where we are going. Hopefully they stand down, but I fear there's a reckoning there, and it'll probably lead towards needing to completely overhauling the department, or moving it's power to another branch of government with greater oversight.

I don't completely agree, how ICE and orders were handled under Trump has opened the door for how some are choosing to handle ICE under Biden.

This is not shocking at all to me. ICE has always had little oversight and accountability.

The Democrats calling for the gutting of ICE or for it to fold and to have another department opened up REALLY need to consider that next time it could be the Department of Education that is gutted.

There are ways to handle all of this without what some are calling for.

Pretty much my thoughts. If you go full bore on red department x, then you keep up the precedent and the next, opposing admin goes full bore on blue department x.

Pretty dumb that DoE would be targeted but ideologies are so extremely opposed that it's turning into a Cold Civil War at this point. SMH

Fair enough points. If you think about the DOJ it’s even more terrifying to think about the chain of command from the White House. However I think it speaks more towards the inadequate job that Congress and the role IG’s play in oversight of executive branch orders that are controversial.

I think in this case of ICE it’s likely that there’s little the White House can do other than replacing the leadership and going through legislation in a bill through Congress that solidifies immigration law.

With this dispute and future disputes with ICE in the meantime I would hope Congress would bring the head of ICE in to testify why they are doing what they are doing etc. Without Congresses role in interagency disputes, we have an issue on our hands of both White House abuse and Rogue agencies of the government undermining itself.

I thought Obama deported more people than anyone? So now Biden is going to do the exact opposite?

Communists and fascists in this thread don’t understand the concept of federalism and think whataboutism is instead the appropriate framework for discussion.

Waiting for these shitbags to dump everyone to blame the "uncontrolled influx".

Seems like the petty response to their problems.

Republicans will continue to judge shop to stop Biden's executive orders. They learned it from democrats that ran to a Hawaiian judge to stop/slow Trump's executive orders over and over again.

It's exactly what I said would happen in the first 100 days thread.
