The Dr. Rick commercials might be the best out there right now.

Yep. And do people actually think “oh I need insurance. I’m gonna call Geico or Progressive because they spend millions on advertising. Surely they won’t be expensive”. I understand seeing an ad for pizza on tv and craving that pizza, but I’m always gonna shop around for insurance and find the most affordable rate. I don’t understand why insurers spend so much on national advertising

I'll give a semi serious answer. The big differentiators are usually: price, service (claim), brand, how easy it to sign/up and do business.

The commercials is the marketing part. If we're talking say personal insurance (for auto/rent/home). It is very competitive. There's a lot of companies in the industry (big & small), who want your business. Because there are so many of them. Conversion rate from leads (people who get quotes) is low. Like less than 1% low. So they want people to visit their website or get referred by an insurance agent. Marketing is huge to stand out from the rest.

The industry itself is also low margin profit, (volume business is a big part). This is also why big shots like Amazon hadn't enter the insurance market (and dominate, like they did with books or grocery chains), because right now it's beneath them.

Cheapest isn't always best. For claims, if you, the buyer happens to get hit or be liable. It's stressful times. Having an insurance that have your back is big. They pay up the damages *quickly, no fuss, and don't use the fine print against the customers.

The Chick-Fil-A commercials where the “fans” talk about their favorite menu item in great detail. Good god those are insufferable. The descriptions are so scripted and cringeworthy

Does she talk about the crust on top on the mac and cheese?

I've never had their mac and cheese, and that didn't make me want to.

The voice of that one girl, it’s so nasally. Like sweeping rough concrete.

So I'm supposed to roll into the drive thru and order "side of mac and cheese but I want extra burned parts"? Then she'd get confused and I'd end up with "extra-burned parts".

I don’t think they have the ability to give you either option, extra burned parts or extra-burned parts. It’s not like they make single servings and use a blow torch creme brûlée style to top off each order — though that be pretty sweet. Oh gdi the audio is fked up again.
