If I'm Cal I'm not letting Watson hold me hostage. I'm trading him and using the picks to rebuild this badly constructed franchise. Even with Watson they aren't going to win. 4-12.

But yes, let’s let BoB run the place how he likes for years on end and eff over the franchise with terrible trades and decisions along the way.

They had double digit wins the year before... with the offense and Watson actually more efficient in the passing game without Hopkins.

They regressed big-time in the running game for a variety of reasons. And the defense was an all-time worse. They don't have to be the best defense ever... and their running deficiencies scream technique/scheme issues.

Nothing in the NFL matters without a truly elite QB. We all know you can scrape together 8-9 wins... hell, you can win 12 games with Matt Schaub.... but year-in/year-out to win, you still have to find that guy.

Don't know how some people can think trading the first franchise QB this organization has ever had would be a good idea. Must be something else behind that.

Just go hire the “best” damn coach.

Not the coach willing to go to church on Sunday morning. (...or otherwise disqualified)
Not the “calming influence” (Seen this written about Caldwell & Frazier. Ahh yes, hire a coach to come put out the fires we started!)
    Not the coach Jack wants
    Not the coach Deshaun wants

Was James really gonna stay because they hired Ty Lue or John Lucas? No.
Hell, both James & Russ “vouched” for Silas(even if he wasn’t their first choice), they both wanted out.

If Deshaun is gonna want out, he’s gonna want out and no damn coach is “saving” that.

How is Cal being held hostage? Deshaun has a contract that runs several years after this season and they can franchise him after that. HE HAS NO LEVERAGE. If anything Cal can hold Deshaun hostage.

Cal needs to act like the freaking boss and give everyone their roles making it clear what he expects. Caserio should run EVERYTHING football and let everyone fall in line after that. Easterby sucks as a culture guy and should be assigned other duties or fired. If you don't fix the REAL problem, you can't rebuild because your leadership at the top will still be dysfunctional and draft picks would be squandered.

Agreed but Cal is going to ultimately make a decision based on one of those factors. I’d much rather it be DW4’s “choice” than any of the other ones.

Lol must be a team wanting to tank by getting a historically bad defense

Read that it's for DL coach which makes more sense.

Every time Cal has acted like the boss has turned into an utter disaster. Firing Gaine, appointing a GM by committee, promoting Easterby, promoting BoB, hiring Caserio (final result remains to be seen). Agree 100% that Caserio should solely run football operations but per him and Cal, Easterby is still going to be very much a part of that.

Well you can't trade Cal, he owns the damn team. Caserio doesn't need Easterby to poke his nose into anything football. They need a top notch cap guy to navigate the mess they're in there and hire a coach. Let Deshaun submit a list of who he likes, interview them (if you haven't already) and voila, he's had input on the coach. Go play QB. GM's manage, coaches coach and franchise QB's need to go execute. Caserio is under contract for 6 years and wasn't easy to get. Let him hire his coach. Deshaun is under contract (paid) and wasn't easy to find. Go play QB. There's only two guys in the scenario who don't have football expertise, Cal & Easterby. Let the football people do football. This isn't hard stuff.

What in the *ell have you been smoking you don't trade the best QB in franchise history. If cal lets easterby trade D4 this team may as well fold.

I feel terrible for Eric Bieniemy if he isn't the hire. I say hire the best candidate but if that isn't EB, that's really disheartening. I feel for him.

Couldn’t agree more. But per Cal and Caserio, Easterby will still be very much a part of football operations which a big crux of the problem.

Why would anyone want to interview Weaver?
