His recent decision to forgo a seven-figure contract in China and sign with Golden State’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, for less than the average elementary school teacher’s salary was rooted in little more than a desire to prove to himself that he still belongs in the NBA.

    [...]

Lin had heard from his agent that NBA teams weren’t impressed by gaudy stats against inferior competition in the CBA. His quickest route back to the sport’s top level would be through the G League, from where 35 players were called up to the NBA last season.
If Lin can make it back... I want DMo to give it a shot.

    Nope. Cleverly disguised DMo thread.

DMo v Lin most recent stats:
    Dmo (2020-2021): 24.2 PPG, 15.2 RPG, 5.5 APG, 61.5 FG%, 40.7 3PT%
    Lin (2019-2020): 22.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.6 APG, 49.1 FG%, 33.9 3PT%

    What say you, @DaDakota?

He should get a teacher's license and do remote elementary education.

His agent actually had to tell this to him.

He’s actually getting paid millions by the CCP now as a double... starting completely from the bottom. He’ll eventually be Gleague MVP.. then get on the warriors as a token Asian for the CCP. Nobody is that dumb to give up 7 figures. Your 15 mins has been up J-Lin.

Lin just might want to ask his former Laker teammates what they did with the watches he gifted them over 6 years ago???????

Not to beat a Dead Horse but, I would rather have Dmo then bounce passing Cousins.

It must be very hard for Lin to accept that his days as an NBA player are over.

    Money
I don't see the teacher's salary thing as too big of a sacrifice. With the low salary, if a NBA call him, a vet min would still mean good money. The China opportunity will still be there if g-league don't work out.

    Covid and access to scouts.
With Covid, maybe Lin figures more teams could be short handed. NBA scouts may also be limited to how far they travel (internationally). Being local in the U.S., might be better access to scouts. It's one thing to watch film on a computer, it's another for scouts to see that player in person.

    Language / culture comfortability
Him being ethnically Chinese/Taiwanese doesn't make him immune. He gets to be back home where he's family is. My understanding is that he can speak some Chinese, but not great at it. Living over there is like any American expat players, they manage, but language is a barrier.

    G-league competition

Recently guys like Amir Johnson and Cody Demp also went into the G-leauge. Lot of older guys are down there, they get to hoop and maybe cling to small hope of getting back to NBA. I don't know what Lin has left in the tank, but I also doubt he'll be g-league mvp. That said, his name is still big enough to sell some g-league tickets.

When he comes back to G league: haha loser is in the G league now on a teacher's salary
