Sure right now I’d rather have Wood because the team isn’t trying to contend for a title. No way I would trade Wood for Capela if the contending team we had was still here. Dude is a revolving door on D.

LMAO...I know right, with these rookie players it just takes about 2-3 years before you really know what they'll probably become. Anyone here stating "based on impact metrics" Mason Jones or Tyrese Maxey will be a (insert said title) player is delusional imo.

Capela has plantar fascitis and hasnt done anything in the playoffs his entire Rockets tenure. You act like he is Hakeem 2.0 in the playoffs, far from it in fact he has been a non factor the last couple of seasons getting injured and then getting some kind of flu or w/e.

Wood is only a revolving door cuz we are playing him out of position he is a PF with that build and body type clearly not a center.

If we had Capela and no Wood vs the Spurs Rox lose by 20+ each game defense or no defense.

I like Maxey a lot. I've watched a lot of Sixers games because there was always the possibility of getting Simmons. I felt like Maxey has a lot of talent and i 100% agree with you. He already gets by his defenders really well.

On Mason: his jumper is wet but a tad bit slow i think. He has the ability to shoot off the dribble, which is a major quality of any star in the league. If he ever lears to finish with contact at the rim and to get by his defender reliably, he will be great. I know his mentality is good, i followed him a while on twitter and he seems confident in his ability. I think he will be good.

I think it's impossible to tell, there are so many factors to what determines what a player ends up being, that's not even related to basketball.
Work ethic, mentality are just as important as pure basketball talent.

Considering he went undrafted, we can be happy if he ends up being a 15/5/5 guy in a couple of years. But i think if he gets more playing time and stays focused, he can be a really good 20+ scorer. That jumper is already so good. The way he just takes one rhythm dribble and just swishes it without touching anything but net is so impressive for a rookie.

Maybe a 6th man of the year type of guy? Lou Williams? I don't know.

    What do you think?

I only started watching basketball in 2014, so there's not a lot of experience on my part, but in football(soccer) I've had a good track record of evaluating talent. I don't think i misjudged a basketball player yet.

I was also convinced that Luka should've gone #1 and i think i was proven right on that one.

I never would have believed you just started watching basketball in 2014 bro lol. You know more about basketball then a lot of the guys here man. On Jones, I'm not gonna lie I have only watched him in the preseason and the limited time he has played. But I'm like you, I definitely like what I see from him. One thing I will give Silas kudos for is actually playing his rookie guys to see what they've got. Some of it might be because of the whole Covid situation but it just seems like Silas is not so bent on only run a 8 man rotation like MDA was. But that's what I'm used to man, guys who can take one dribble and just rise up and shoot like Jones does. That's how I was taught how to play the game of basketball back in the day. You don't have to dribble the ball 50 million times to get open. Take a few dribbles and if you can't break your defender, kick out and reestablish. So many guys today have no understanding what the cross over dribble is for.

Thank you, that's really kind of you.
If i fall in love with something, i have to know everything. That's just how my mind works. There was a time where i've watched every single game every night, sometimes on multiple screens. I'm not that hardcore right now but i watch games that interest me, or players that interest me.

One thing i haven't learned how to do is how to evaluate players in high school and college. If a player like, lets say Mason Jones goes up against a NBA level defender and does things well, i know he is good. But what if he does that against a High school level player? There were so many players that looked like they are really good in college or high school and they end up not working in the NBA because the league is a man's league. But to be fair, since the rockets didn't really have any draft picks anyway, i wasn't that interested in picking it up.

Now that the rockets will probably be a major player in the next 5-8 years in drafts, I will certainly look into college and high school games a lot more and hopefully figure out how to evaluate players on that level.

Yeah, I still struggle with player evaluation as well. It's so hit or miss man. But to be fair a lot of NBA franchises struggle with that too. Some things will always translate to the pros like shooting, basketball IQ, hustle plays, passing, height. If you see a kid and most of their games is based on blowing by the defenders with speed, athleticism, dunks, flashy handles, flashy passes, etc, those things may not translate to the next level very well. Some guys you just know have that it factor. I knew Kevin Durant was going to be that dude after seeing how he played at Texas. But other guys I have totally missed the mark on.

Like I said current I would take Wood. But if we had the same squad as say the 17-18 team no way in hell I would swap Clint for Wood. I like my bigs to be able to play both sides of the floor well. Wood is nice for a team with no title aspirations.

I thought Curry was going to suck lol. Boy how wrong I was about that guy. I thought Brandon Jennings was going to be good. For a while my favorite point guard in the NBA was Deron Williams lol, that's another miss. Antoine Walker is another guy that I absolutely knew coming out of college would be a hall of famer. The list goes on man lol. Smh...

To be fair, when Curry was coming into the league, the 3pt shot wasn't that big of a thing.
I gotta admit, i know these Names but other than Brandon Jennings and a little bit of Deron Williams i haven't seen anything of them, lol.

What about you, anyone you miss on good or bad? I'm sitting here thinking about guys from way back in the day that I thought would be good. Tom Gugliotta, Bobby Hurley, Matt Maloney, Damon Stoudamire, so many guys I missed on through the years.

I thought Dennis Smith Jr would be alright. He looked relatively fine early on on the Mavs but since he got traded to NYK i haven't watched him at all and just from stats, he seems to be one of the worst players in the league. Otherwise, i think i haven't had a miss so far. But 6,7 years is not that much time, lol.
Also, i thought Ben Simmons was going to be Lebron 2.0, but i realized quickly that he isn't even trying to shoot the ball, so after his rookie year i was low on him.

I thought Brandon Ingram was going to be a bust, but he looks legit.
I thought Lonzo Ball would never be a great player, which so far he doesn't look like.
I thought Markkanen would be a really good stretch 4, like a porzingis 2.0. He looks ok.

I was high on Lauri Markkanen as well, I also thought Kelly Olynyk would be good. I really like Reggie Jackson a lot too. I thought coming out he could be an all-star. Would you have traded Harden for Brandon Ingram if that trade would have been available for Houston?

I’ve heard that The blood clot issue is resolved For him, so yeah, I’d definetely do it. Ingram has length you can’t teach and his touch has really become good. He is only 23, too. His timeline would’ve been perfect for the rockets to pair with wood. If he stays healthy i see him being a top 5 player once the lebron, durant era is over
