Way too early in the season for song and dance about Covington playing bad, I think we can be happy with Wood and the picks, and say the deal was likely good for us, but Covington is a vet, probably just a slump, he’ll probably bounce back and prove to be a solid additional for the Blazers.
He sucks right now and it is not looking good for Portland. If the deals were reverse you would be taking the Rockets to task for this.
I hope the Blazers are just good enough to avoid the lottery. I'd like the Rockets to have their pick.
Yeah, right now they are a top 10 team record wise, Nurkic going down hurts them, but RoCo/Kanter/Giles should hold down the C spot well enough until he gets back. We just have to hope Dame stays healthy.
Nurkic going down will be tough for them. Definitely will be a 7th-10th in the western conference since Kanter can’t play D and not sure RoCo will be an ideal fit as a 5 for them since their guards suck at D. RoCo not playing well on offense either. 17th pick would be great next year and hopefully we are better than OKC so we don’t have to swap.
Right but Miami (and Brooklyn) will likely have better record than OKC rendering the pick swap useless, correct? Assuming we also have better record than OKC.
No, OKC owns the miami pick and can swap the miami pick with ours. The pick swaps works at follows: Okc will choose the best 2 picks out of: OKC,HOU,MIA we can then swap that pick with BKN, if the MIA pick is lower than BKN only way we keep our own pick: we get 1-4 Or Our pick is higher than MIA and OKC
I thought it was extremely unlikely we wouldn't have to swap if we traded Harden (unless we hit the top 4 in the lottery) but Miami is kinda trash right now. I'm guessing they get it together but who knows.
Yea, MIA currently has a worse record than OKC, but they also had to deal with injuries and covid a lot. Lately they’ve been playing a bunch of rookies. if it‘d stay as right now i‘d be actually be fine with getting OKCs pick as i think they will end up below .500 aswell
