He did the team wrong after the team bent over backwards for him. I wouldn’t retire Tmacs jersey either.

I can easily say the team has done him wrong with the number of absolute scrubs they surrounded him with over the years. and who cares about tmac. he did nothing here. he couldnt even win a playoffs series. I'm not even talking about him

I'm not even a Harden fan, but yes, his jersey should be retired. He did enough to be remembered in some type of way.

Definitely not statue worthy and he won't be returning here for any championship anniversary events so yes....Retire the man's jersey...He at least earned that much.

But don't put it anywhere near Dream's 34...Now that would be too much.

If Yao and tmac jerseys are recited then yeah cu harden has accomplished a lot more than those two. He’s the second best rockets player ever

Normally I would say no since he didn't get the team to the Finals, but...Yao has his jersey retired so the precedent is set.

Plus if Moses Malone also has his jersey retired then that's bonus rationale.

The difference between these two and Harden is they didn't pout and demand a trade, souring their tenure towards the end.

For the record, McGrady should never have his jersey retired in Houston. Never.

There is one person who also won't: Morey. Had they won in 2018 he would've surely been worthy of lionization as was Carroll Dawson.

In fact had they won in 2018, Chris Paul would've had his jersey up there as well (Drexler is retired mostly for what he did in '95, but also '97).

Do players get to leave entirely the wrong way and their jersey retired by that team?

Not hating, just looking for examples.

He should have three MVP's as a Rocket. Along with multiple titles were it not for one of the greatest teams of all time and Adam Silver.
Beard carried teams ( sometimes lacking in talent) in the brutal West to really good records year after year.
The #'s are of course beyond sick.
It's been said already more than once, but again..he's the second greatest Rocket.

Sure, it ended badly...but folks néed to step back....
    We've been blessed.
    Hoist away.

Perhaps, but thats why I said examples, not a one off. Anything is possible, I'm just unsure of its likelihood is all.

If you mean Iverson, that’s not a proper comparison.

AI embodied the 76ers like no other, and his cultural impact on the whole NBA was significant. More important, he had a real connection to Philly.

Harden, no matter his accomplishments, was in Houston for a job (and for the clubs). Unlike Yao, he never really had this love affair with the City.
