Bogut has retired, Patty is well loved in Australia and deservedly so. He's been awesome for our Olympic team. The one thing though we crave is the ever elusive Olympic medal. You guys generally have gold sewn up but we are desperate to win a medal. To a lot of us Simmons offers us that hope of getting a medal.
This is Exums last nba stop before China if he doesn’t put something meaningful together here. The league is too talented with too much regular inbound talent for guys like exum to stick.
Whose minutes is he going to take? Oladipo, Eric Gordon, Sterling Brown, Danuel House, Jae'sean Tate, David Nwaba, Ben McLemore, Radions Kurucs all play the same positions he does (Tate/House may be playable at the 4, but the rest are 2's and occasional 3's). Exum's trade value is not going to go up, and the only reason a team would want him is for an expiring contract. He is shooting under 20% from 3-point range this season and under 40% FG's. Idk, I don't see him seeing much floor time.
Like Nwaba he can play defense. And he is long at 6'6 with 6'10 wingspan. Moreso he can play PG. This is going to be important considering Wall suffering from sore knee and not able to play back to back.
I think Exum's got a potential place on the roster. He looks like a true pg with good size, can defend, is not turnover prone, and can get a team into an offense. He can even help on the glass. The league seems to always have places for guys like these if they aren't offensive liabilities (Rondo and Shaun Livingston immediately come to mind). It might be nice to bring in a guy that's not looking for his shot who's looking to facilitate to pair with Gordon or Oladipo.
