Our offense tonight finally showed some signs of coherence but our defense is still not that good. A better team than the Spurs would've punished us for our porousness. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Are you referring to the 2015 Rockets?

Effort and we got rid of a lazy guy who was trying to force a trade.

I think our defense will get better once the players mesh a little more and Silas and the coaching squad tailor their defensive scheme a little more towards the new players that we've acquired.

We don't have a lockdown defender, but we have a bunch of above-average perimeter defenders who are switchable (e.g. Tate, Tucker, House, Brown) and Oladipo is a plus defender so if he plays for us then that'll be a nice little boost as well. John Wall, when locked in, is an excellent defender as well and so is Eric Gordon.

Our issue is that although we're not playing super-small-ball any more, the Rockets' bigs aren't the best paint protectors, and all the perimeter defense in the world won't help if you have nobody to funnel the offensive players into. Thankfully, Wood at least has good instincts as a shot blocker and one can only hope that he keeps putting work in to improve his awareness and versatility as a defender.

So basically if all goes well by the end of the season the Rockets should be an above-average defensive team, the pieces are mostly there.

    “How to improve the defense?”

    Get better players.
